Default 1966 Body Mounts

Hi guys:

Haven't updated in awhile and will do so soon with lots of pictures. The body is planned to go back on the frame on the 19th and I just looked at my original mounts to make sure I order the right parts from Ames (is there somewhere better to get the mounts?)

I noticed .. just as it says on the "parts search" that the openings of the mounts are 5/8" but the bolts for the mounts are 7/16" and don't screw into anything.

What am I missing?

Also, I lost 7 or 8 bolts and was wondering if anyone has original body mount bolts for sale or if you know where I can get exact looking repops. The Ames bolts in their picture are NOTHING like the originals.

Thanks for your help

Phil

hey Phil..

I had the same issues on my 66 Vent.. I replaced all of the
body mounts and bolts .. since about half of them broke on removal..

I bought the entire set of mounts and bolts from ames.. I Compared
my old mounts to the measurements in the catalog.. determined
which ones I needed for a 66 4dr sedan.. and once i determined which
ones I needed.. The description of the mount tells you which bolt kit
to use for that mount.. that system seemed to work even with that
weird difference in the descriptions.

When I put my shell on and tightened it down at 4 points to go over to
the body man the new bolts locked into the existing cage nuts just fine..
on the ones that hadnt broken..

My body man had to cut open a few of the shell hard mounting points
to get the old cage nuts out to remove broken bolts.. as far as I know
we reused all of the original cage nuts..

I can call by body guy tomorrow to ask.. he still has my Ventura noses
to pick up.. (I had him clean and paint 2 .. so I have a spare) and Ill actually
be under the car tomorrow putting in the fuel and brake lines so Ill take a quick pic
if I remember.

John

ah cage nuts! I don't see any in my bag of bolts and mounts ... and they're not listen with the mounts here on Ames ... do they come with the mounts?

Looking forward to seeing the pics ... thanks John!

I finally got the pics taken.. I never installed the fuel
lines so that changed my time around a bit.

hard to make out the mounts in the front corner
of the shell but there is a cage nut in there that takes
the bolt.

I hope these help at least some.

Yeah I saw under there again tonight. My car has rotating t-nuts inside the body and the bolts fit right in ... Lord willing maybe Monday the body will go on the frame. We'll see! lol
