Gas Tank Dating??
Never thought to look for date codes on gas tanks. But noticed this apparent date code on my 05D '70 V.N. TA's tank while it was out for a new sending unit (again) and cleaning. I'm interpreting this as 19th week of 1970 rather than simply 1970, as it reads.
Dealership had apparently added some undercoating and they covered most all the bottom and sides. Fortunately, this did preserve most of the original finish. I'll post another about the stencil I found too. |

They say the stencil has a vendor number along with the year but who knows. Maybe it was a week stamping.

Yes those stamps are typically found in one of the corners on the flat portion of the tank (pinch weld)
It is a week and then year. It's just coincidence (funny) that your happens to be 1970. Probably for a late May or June build |

My 70 TA is a 05E build date, all pretty close.
