Default 1978 4Spd W72 WS6 Trans Am

Although I just purchased this car a few months ago, I find myself wanting/missing my A Body car.

This car is a really nice driver and with some detailing would be even nicer. I have ordered the PHS (12/21) to verify what I believe is a WS6, W72 4 speed car with original block. The car started life as code 11 Cameo White but is now code 24 Martinique Blue with a black interior.

I got the car out of Washington state and the previous owner bought it out of Arizona. He had an inspection company check it out before he bought it and I have a ton of pictures from that inspection.

The body on this car is very nice and I'm sure was taken apart to do the color change. It is all metal with the exception of the passenger quarter which I believe is fiberglass. There is no rust showing and this car was done in 2004. The floors and trunk look to be original and rot free. The trunk has some non original holes due to a battery that was located there as well as an electric fuel pump and stereo wiring. I have removed both and gone to a mechanical pump.

The drivetrain is interesting in the fact that it appears to have the original WC code block but with upgraded casting 62 heads. It has roller rockers, a Performer intake, chrome pulleys and alternator. I do not have any build data but I was told it was all rebuilt with forged pistons. I do not know what cam is in it but would guess somewhere around the XE268 cam. The T-10 was changed out for a Doug Nash 4 speed and 3.73 gears were installed in the back. The car pulls hard.

It has upgraded sway bars, KYBs, and a drive shaft safety hoop as well as a Lakewood bellhousing. The front springs are new but the steering feels loose to me and I have purchased a rebuilt WS6 gear box as it is leaking at the pitman seal. The car had extremely wide tires and wheels on it as you will see in some of the pictures. I sold them and installed some brand new 17" Am Racing 200s and tires. The car drives better but could use an alignment.

The interior is really nice with aftermarket front seats and the original lombardy cloth rears. The options on the car are A/C (no comp or bkts) TW, Pulse Wipers, and of course WS6, W72 options. The dash is crack free. It also has a nice Pioneer CD player with dual Alpines in the stock front location and Alpine 6x9s in the back deck.

I would like to offer it to my fellow PYers before going the Ebay route. I would consider a partial trade or possibly full for the right car.

Price is $13K, less for cash. I will update this as soon as I receive the PHS.

The prefered list in order would be:

1970 1/2 GT-37

1970-72 GTO

1970 LeMans Sport or 1971-72 LeMans Sport with the Endura Option

1971 GT-37 or 1972 GT

1969-70 Grand Prix (428/455 only) consider 400 4 speed of course!

1968 GTO

2004-2006 GTO 6 Speed only

I prefer a 4 speed but will consider all.

If you have questions, please PM or call me at 317-364-6196

Thanks,
Joe

Here is a link to a clip of the car running by the previous owner. This was from July.

PHS arrived yesterday and as expected it is a W72 WS6 car with original vin stamped on the WC code block. Until I get it in the air, I can only assume it is an original 4 speed car by the condition of the pedals etc. The PHS doesn't tell you as it is a no cost option I believe. Any feedback is appreciated. This is a nice car.

Really, 569 views and only 2 replies? (Thanks Bonne Joe)

Come on guys, even criticism is appreciated. Am I priced too high? I don't think so especially at $10,500.

Maybe we are all just broke from Christmas.

Cool Tough time...

to move anything right now, Joe. Nice car and reasonably priced in my opinion. Just may need to wait 'til Spring to get the bucks. Good luck. Ron

Yes the car is still for sale and it would look sweet in your garage!
The Centerline's have been sold. If you wanted to work something
out on the wheels and tires, we could. I have a set of ralleys if you want.
Please call me to talk as the price offer ends tomorrow.
Thanks,
Joe. 317-364-6196

Thumbs up

I'd love to have the car, I'm looking for more cars as I've got alot of customers looking for these things. Only problem with this one is I think for the people looking for cars that I know is they aren't looking to spend $ on a car that's pretty much done and that sounds rediculous I know. They want lower price cars to build to their own specs. I mean honestly man if I had the extra cash I'd buy the car and put a different set of wheels on it and keep it for myself for awhile. I've been buying up project cars for people to buy from me and then me restore them to their liking. I think honestly the only thing that car needs is a set of the satin billet Year One snowflakes.

Mr.Bratt
I apologize if it felt I was pushing you. I lowered the price on the car for a week to move it quickly as I found another car I wanted.
My response was kind of a nudge as I was trying to get you to call with any questions you might have had. I was trying to determine whether you were a potential buyer or tire kicker. Again I apologize, I let my want for that other car take over.
If by chance you are still interested, please give me a call to talk about the car as I was going to try to list it tonight on Ebay. That is why it had a "one week" reduction in price. If it doesn't sell, I will wait until spring.

Ponchjoe

It's a real nice car and I think anybody would love to have it in their garage - but - the only things that sell here are screaming deals, everything else just sits.

Sorry, I guess I jumped the gun as well. It just felt like buy it now or the price goes up.You car is not the year I was looking for but it was SO NICE looking it caught my eye. With it being winter here it is the time to buy.I really do like your car and the color..

down side your several hours away and If I was to buy it I would have to get it shipped or rent/buy a trailer as I would not drive it with snow/salt on the roads

I went and looked at 2 cars today within a hour of my house. Heard them run but did not drive do to snow/salt on the roads. I am waiting for the owner to get back with me with a carfax report.so I will have to wait a few days to see what happens.

You do have a real nice car. good luck on ebay.

Peace. I will most likely try out the Ebay thing tonight. If it does not hit the reserve, it will just stay under it's blanky until spring.
Good luck with your search, if something changes, call me.
