Default American power train hydraulic clutch conversion

Any body ever do this on a 69 Firebird? The hole in the firewall is 2" circle. The plate the give you is 2"x 2.5". I was thinking about drilling a hole in a 16 ga piece of metal about 1/4", hole sawing about the same size hole in the metal around the 1/4" hole, then hole sawing the same size as the hole in the firewall. Then welding it to the firewall, drilling the hole as big as I need for the new pushrod, then drilling the four holes for the mounting plate. The hole really may not be strong enough without a full weld. As it is right now the hole in the firewall would have four ears on it, two on the top and two on the bottom....a little thin in the skin. What say ye? Thank you!!!

Bowler transmission makes an adapter that bolts behind the master cylinder that puts the Wilwood master pushrod in line with the factory pushrod home and hides the master under the brake master. I will get a pic when I get home

I originally mounted my “adapter plate” for the wildwood MC to my firewall. I found too much flex and made an additional support to the frame rail. I imagine using the brake mc as support will work also.

Contact bowler transmission. My bracket is so “hidden” I can’t even get a picture of it

I got that plate when I put an American Powertrain kit with T-56 in my 69 firebird.

I thought the plate was too small, so I made my own larger plate so that the pressure would be more distributed throughout the firewall when the clutch was depressed.

My plate went up between firewall and where the clutch/brake pedal bracket goes through the firewall and bolts to the brake master cylinder, then down and around the hole where the steering column goes through. There is much less flex when I press the clutch that way.

Also the plate I got from American Powertrain really didn't have a big enough hole for the clutch rod to pass through without the threaded part hanging up on the sides of the bracket as it went in and out.

I’m telling you look at the bowler transmission adapter. You won’t be disappointed

I ordered the bracket today. I wish I would have bought the conversion from them.
