At least according to the rules, the cars have to pass NHRA tech for the weight and speed of the vehicle.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see some tech shenanigans.

It just dawned on me those are rules packages as of December 2018. They might have been different during the race season that’s being televised.

That is a very gray area. There is no chassis cert for a door car going faster than 6.0 in the quarter. Most of those drivers are not wearing the proper safety equipment for the speeds they are going. A lot are wearing sfi5 suits and you see a few don’t even wear gloves.

John,
Isn't Pro Mod a door car that runs faster than 6.0?

Yes, and there is no current sfi chassis cert for the speeds those cars are going. Look at the mopar factory super cars. I’m pretty sure they aren’t legal for their chassis cert/weight/times run.

John,
I believe the mopar is right at the weight limit. I believe last year when the NHRA wanted to slow the mopars down they could not added any weight so they took weight off of the other cars.

His car with driver weighs 2,800 lbs!

It was better when they had 9 sec street cars. This BAZZILLION dollar "street" cars is hard to relate to.
When the show was young they had some NA rides.

Anyone can go fast with twin 88s. If you cant make power with those then retire.

Making full use of the power is the hard part.

Just think Jeff, drop your compression to 11:1 run methanol and @3000 HP could be available. Probably do 2000 plus with eBay turbos if you want to go low buck.

Agreed, the kicked to the curb used parts ElCo was something most of can relate to. Nothing against Jeff Lutz or Ryan Martin, those are beyond bad ass cars but those cars probably cost as much as all my cars and house combined.

ANYTIME the money gets serious the builds get serious.Just put a trophy and bragging rights out there and see what happens. No diff from NHRA or NASCAR.They need to put in rules to protect the racers from them selves.Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?Tom

The show and drag circuit are doing great things to revitalize the sport. It's noticeable that they are slowly evolving towards standard drag racing. From the beginning of sneaking out on streets to their own private drag strip; and from the corny hand drop of Pinks to flashlight starts to using the tree at the strip for their no-prep races. No-prep is about the only holdout left, and they're probably wishing they could do away with that. Hell, they started with prepping the street and only went with the no-prep later on.

They've got away from much of the phony drama, and I'd be happier to have that BS dropped all together. Even Chuck has been allowed to mellow through the shows.

It's been interesting to see not only improvements to their cars, but their tow vehicles and cool trailers. Some nice seed money being filtered down to the regulars.
