Thumbs up Data Loggers?

So who runs what and do they do what you expected?

Or what woulda ya recommend as to brand. Lot of units out there and are all the companies good with tech help.

Next; which unit?..... as I'm looking for one that can do A/F, EGT (at least one on each side), driveshaft setup, nitrous pressure, 2 fuel pressures, water temp, etc.
What other hook ups does one recommend?
Price? I see that most are basic so what does one end up with in actual cost with add ons.

Any info appreciated.

Racepak is the most popular out there.

The problem is the logger is "cheap", Racepak will rape you on the sensors.

Sportsman logger is $825, Internally it will log: Engine RPM, Driveshaft RPM,Battery Voltage, 2-Axis G-meter, and a 12 volt event. It is capable of 21 channels (6 user-defined). 100 samples per second (max. sample rate).

V300SD is $1725, internally it will log: Battery Voltage, Longitudinal g-meter (acceleration and deceleration), and Lateral g-meter (side-to-side motion). It is capable of 67 channels, 56 through vnet, 4 analog, 4 digital hard wired. Sample rates: 100/sec vnet and digital, and 1000/sec analog.

Sensors:
0-15 fuel psi: $250
Oil pressure: $250
Map pressure: $250
Fuel flow meter: $150
Nitrous bottle pressure: $250
Water temp: $170
Trans charge pressure: $250
Single Channel wideband: $360
V-net "boxes" are around $270 (if needed).

The advantages is how it can work with the grid system and the ability to put in a logger or display dash, if wanted.

The sportsman is a good value logger, the problem is you can quickly run out of channels, if you have a 7531 you can log the map pressure with a $7 sensor from the autoparts store, scaling has to be taken into account as it starts at 14.7 (IIRC) instead of 0, it is actually a boost function in the box but can be used to log this for a nitrous car.

RPM is also a good logger system, NCRC sales a "Nitrous Pro-Mod" system that includes:
RPM PRO Software
DL10 Data Logger with 8 EGT expansion module
8 3/16″ EGT probes with fittings
2 EGT connector boxes
2 Hall sensors
1 Pinion Collar, 4 magnet
1 trigger magnet (for Input shaft)
1 0-1000 PSI Sensor (N2O)
1 0-50 PSI Sensor (Carb Fuel)
1 0-50 PSI Sensor (Fuel)
1 Shock travel Sensor
1 0-5G Accelerometer
1 Digital Channels (3) cable
Remote start cable and switch
All sensor cables

$2299.40 for this system. link

Obviously it can have sensors added to log anything else.

For racepak I would contact either Hyperaktive or Roger Racepak on FB to get an idea of the package needs and costs to do what you want to do. For RPM I would trying contacting them direct as Marty is always busy on the phone with the converter stuff, but he is very helpful if you don't mind the wait.

I have the racepak sportsman and like it.

You do not need EGTs step into the new millennium old man!

O2 are ok but just read the plug.

Probably the two biggest sensors for a nitrous car is G meter and Vacuum sensor. They will tell you if you are having a problem.

Reading the vacuum will tell you when you "rattle" the rings. It seems reactive verses proactive by those who use it to tune instead of pulling plugs, or you can run boat plugs as they usually break off at the porcelain when the engine rattles, usually killing the spark to that cylinder. Secrets of a top tuner who can't read plugs. It is a good reference, but I personally would use it to tune, I would use it to help a tuning decision.

EGTs is just a reference as well, same with O2 as so many things can change what the probes and sensors tell you.

The plugs usually never lie, sometimes they fib.

The drive shaft sensor and shocks sensors can be very helpful. Logging the charge pressure can help when making changes in the converter, you can see what the engine, trans, and driveshaft are doing, basically.

Racepak -- not cheap but if you need help at the track there is usually someone that knows how to help -- I have seen to many people trying to deal with the "off" brands and having problems and know one else around has ever seen there system? Racepak is easy to set up and use and the EGT is nice if you have the need to make individual cylinder adjustments -- you know -- get out of the stone age and use DFI -- :-)

We're using RPM on the Boss Bird. It works great, excellent phone support and reasonably priced. Our total system was about $2400. It's very popular among the nostalgia nitro ranks because it can survive the vibration environment and isn't affected by magneto interference. Racepak quoted us $9000 to do the same job because anything other than their Pro system wouldn't survive in a nitro funny car.

MegaSquirt 3 can log a ton of crap and there are input expansions that allow a ton more crap to be logged. MegaSquirt 1 and 2 do datalogging as well, just depends how many inputs you want as well as if you want your datacollector doing other things for you too like rev limiting, timing, fueling, nitrous control, launch control, etc. Pick and choose.

I think DiesekGeek says he logs something like 25 inputs on a land speed car with a MegaSquirt 3 (as well as run the engine) Each wheel speed, each turbo turbine speed, 8 EGT's, front and rear suspension travel or maybe all four wheels, AFR on each bank, oil and fuel pressure, intake and coolant temps, probably oil temp, manifold pressure, atmospheric pressure, throttle position, GPS speed, and I'm probably missing a few. Of course rpm, spark advance, injector duty cycle and pulsewidths.

Battery Voltage,
Longitudinal g-meter (acceleration and deceleration)
Lateral g-meter (side-to-side motion)
Drive shaft prm

The optional sensors we run:
Water Temp
Fuel Pressure
Oil Pressure
Oil Temp
Boost Pressure
Trans Pressure
Trans temp
8- O2's
Infared Track Temp.
Infared Tire Temp.
Shock travel
Big Stuff 3 interface
MSD Grid interface

Its all and want you wanna see and spend

I'm getting ready to purchase a data logger and I'm leaning toward the Racepak. Just bringing this back to the top to see if there is anyone wants to add any changes or updates that have occurred in technology or new products over the last few years.

Get it through Hyperactive Performance.

There tech after the sale is invaluable!!!

HIS, I have no clue what your post is suppose to mean. As I requested, do you or anyone else have any UPDATED information on any new brands, longevity issues etc,, The last post in this thread previous to mine was 4 years ago. Do you have anything of value to add? I'm buying a data logger for a variety of reasons not just for air fuel ratio monitoring.
