QA-1 Front coilovers:
Anyone running QA-1 Front coilovers in the stock control arm pockets. The ones that fit up into the frame and on top of the 12 way adjustable shock that mounts to the lower arm. The spring looks like a reversed Beehive setup.
Mainly interested in the race or street/strip application for a 2nd Gen Firebird but see they make em for GTO's etc. Results? Good - Bad? Info? |

I have the QA-1 R front coilovers in my 68 goat. I just ordered different springs because of a weight issue. I strongly recommend weighing the front end before ordering them. The mail order companies do not list the specialty spring rates. They list them on their website WWW.QA1.NET The install was easy.

www.autofabracecars.com is who I ordered mine from. They have the best prices I found. Good people, quick shipping.
The nice thing about them is the ability to adjust the ride height. As noted by Goatherder, weigh the front end and order the correct spring rate. Adjusting the ride height does not change the spring rate. They have tons of adjustability for launch etc. Bolt right in.

ditto the front end weigh. i did not realize how much weight i had shaved from the front when i ordered mine.....they are way stiff. no bounce back after you push down on the front.
what LBS. are yours rated at RON H....?

i have them on my 79 grand prix. extremely easy install. and yes, like a behive. the adjusting knob is easy to get to. the height adjustment, a lil hard, but way way way easier than having to pull out and cut springs. member on here-BrandX, a good buddy of mine from around here will probably chime in. he will have some results here pretty quick from his 72 lemans (from moroso trick and 3 way adjustables, to coil-overs).

Put them in my 64 A Body, Bought them from Dick Miller Racing and he recommended against the coil-overs for drag racing since the launch weight transfer is better using traditional coils/shocks but I was commited to the coil-overs for the ride height I was after. I am real happy with them since it was an easy bolt-in and I no long have to deal with compressing the spring each time I pull the front end apart.

Randy put 'em on the S10 over the winter and loves 'em.

I have seen some reinforcement plates used for the bottom of the control arms since they use the shock mount thin area to support the car.
I have set just haven't installed them yet. |

I bought the 350 lbs rated RGMP-1350 race series. But I was intending and now have a full fiberglass front end. Plus aluminum heads etc. I may have to drop to the 250 lbs spring, hopefully i can get finished assembling this week and after break in get to some scales to check my new weight.
The 1450 series would be the ones to use on a cast head full steel car.

Just put them in my 74. Mine is for street use only , no race, but very satisfied so far. Wanted to be able to adjust the ride height mainly. The car rides better than it did on coil springs.

I am running their coil-overs (A225-550R) and tubular uppers and lowers. Used the lowers because the pockets on my OEM were showing some weakness and QA1 tach had concerns with that. 76 TA with a somewhat lighter front only due to aluminum heads etc., so near stock. Last summer was first go with them and I am very happy with the handling results. Started with their recommended settings, but ended up doing some tweaking to get the right compression and rebound for my needs, but that was pretty easy even for a casual "mechanic" like me. Stiffer than OEM as expected, and the handling characteristics both on launch and especially cornering are better than I expected.
