I was talking with the historian at ASC a couple weeks ago to get the shipping/conversion info on my son's 2001 WS6 Trans Am. (ASC did the WS6 conversions for Pontiac). I asked him specifically if they had any info on their sunroof conversions done back in the day and he said that unfortunately, ASC did not keep those records.

That's correct Steve. When I first bought the the red car, I tracked down and talked to a former employee of ASC who said the same thing.

BUMMER! For a moment there as I was reading Steve's post I thought there may be some production statistics.....only to be disappointed several words later.

They do exist but it will be interesting to see how a car with a roof will be judged. If you bring it to the ta Nats will they put you in modified? Same for MCACN show. I wonder if will they deduct points for a non factory option. I wouldn't want to judge it and make the call.

Good point. Not sure what to think as I'm more for the drive and talk to people at those shows.

Never around for the judging part of the show. Just me...

What are you saying there Mike?

BTW, your blogger friend is going to be astounded by an article coming out shortly - some people who don't know what they are talking about shouldn't open their mouths.

I'm saying if it's factory installed that's cool or even if it's not a factory installed item it still good for me. Cooler than TTops installed during the disco era. IMHO

The blogger, I don't know who it is ( no name). Just a internet guy who has an opinion wiling to write it down with the freedom of press. Whatever.

If you are alluding to proof forth coming that's big news!

I agree. They are not factory installed. Does that mean you should enter a car show in the modified category? That's a tough question.

A different vehicle but, an SSJ Grand Prix never existed from Pontiac. How would someone enter the car in a show? Modified or stock

I could care less how the car would be classed..........LOL!!

The current owner has the only '73 SD455 T/A sunroof car in existance.

The 1st place award is....... THE CAR!!!

Nuff said.

This is an interesting question. I used to place cars in classes at the T/A Nats. Not judging but teching, so that equal cars are classes together. A lot of people used to use the term "dealer installed" for things such as chrome valve covers and the like. We considered it a modification. It has to come out of Norwood or Van Nuys like that or it's a mod. A body modification such as a sunroof would jump the car right to the Heavy Mod class. It would be a nearly impossible class to win with a "stock" car with a sunroof.
