70 GP Value
I was thinking about going to take a look at this car to buy as a driver and I wondering what everyone thought would be a fair price. It looks relatively rust free for an east coast car.
I’m looking for a car that I can take to work or to the store and park it in a parking lot and not worry too much that it will be damaged or disappear, since car isn’t perfect I think it would fit the bill. And I really like the color combination. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=261083233028

That’s what I though too. I though if I could pick it up for between 5k and 6k it would be an ok deal.

My thoughts exactly. I thought 5-5,500. Those rust bubbles will be a bigger issue quickly.

It does have bubbles in strange spots, looks to be a repaint with the Grand Prix letter holes filled over on the trunk lid. At 5k (or less ) you'll have a blast going to work or "gettin groceries" in it.

The red car does look like a much better value for the money. I like the gold better, but the red is growing on me. I saw the red one on CL back in the spring and didn't call because I didn't love the red and I didn't want to spend that much money, but spending more now will save me in the long run. Is the red a factory color? the only red I could find for a 69 GP is Matador Red and Claret Red, and this dosen't look like either.
It is only a town over from me, so I guess I don't have a choice but to go take a look! What do you think would be a fair price for this one? Keith, would you have 4speed parts for the conversion? I would love to do that. That is what I really want, but I don't want to spend the money for a nice one. Thanks for all of the replies. Neil

Keith, I don't need the 4-speed (at least I don't think I do as of now), but I'll buy some of your NOS or super-clean 71 GP stuff...

NOOOOO!!!!
BUt I will help you guys locate stuff that's for sure. Fortunately most of the 4 speed conversion is GTO stuff. Most is available repro or used. the console plate is the only hard part and you can fake itwith a fabbed piece, guys have made them out of fiberglass or plastic. Auto console plates can be modded but are tough to get good results, most of the modded stuff has no ash tray. Originals are hard to find and expensive. I don't have any of them for sale. Other option is to leave the console out until you find one or make up a plate. Looks a little odd at first. The frame bracket that mounts the clutch countershaft is a flimsy piece of junk originally, and if it's not an original car I rec you make up a more solid oneout of 1/4 steel. It's pretty easy to locate by installing the countershaft and getting out the torch to cut and welder to attach. The one on the race car was heavily gusseted, I guess they had a few failures along the line. |

Am I imagining things or did the price on the red rider jump $1000+?

Maybe that guy has seen this forum and thought he could have a sale here. Try to get a little more out of it.

I went and looked at the red car last night and it is a very nice car, but the red just dosen't do it for me. The owner was very nice, he traded a 34 Ford street rod for it last fall and he wasn't a Poniac guy and didn't know that much about it. I think it was the former owner that had it listed on cars online for $7,800. The car ran and drove very nice and it really is a pleasure driving a Grand Prix.
I'm going try and go and take a look at the gold 70 next week just for he hell of it. The EBay auction ended with a no sale at $4,300, so make I can buy it for $5k or so. Thanks for the replies. Neil

I looked at that car and it was a bondo bucket. It was a shame they put a nice paint job over really bad rust repair. I don’t understand why the owner spent the money on a nice paint job but didn’t spring to have the rust repairs correctly. The car also had other problems, an exhaust leak, trans didn’t shift right, among other things. The red car was much nicer and drove much better.
However the owner was nice guy, he gave me the keys and told me to take it for take as long a ride as I wanted. I’m still looking for a nice drive, you get so much for your money with 69-72 GPs I figure if I wait for the right car and increase my budget to about 10K I’ll get a really nice car and not waste my time with a headache like this car.
