I want to go to a modern tire & wheel setup on my Formula.

I'm aware of the US Mags Bandit and the Year One options.

Are there other companies out there making Rally II style wheels in 18x9.5" with backspacing in the 5"-5.25" range?

I'd actually prefer 17" but the tire selection is disappearing for wide rubber. Even 18" is starting to thin out a bit but I'm gambling there will be enough selection in that diameter to last awhile.

So 18" it is and there is room for a 9.5" wide wheel on all 4 corners, maybe even a 10" out back.

Any suggestions on companies that make wheels like this appreciated.

I'm also considering other 5-spoke alternatives that at least look "rally-esque" like the American Racing VF501 with blacked out insides and brushed spoke faces - which I can't seem to post a picture of. They're ridiculously expensive though.

Those billet rally’s are probably the same that everyone else sells and they are quite expensive, nice but expensive

twov8sandat4 - somehow I missed that one. Probably because everyone talks about the Bandit so I didn't think to look any further into their website. That's a good looking wheel as well.






I just don't know if I can fit 10" wide up front. I don't want to hack anything in the front to make them fit. If not, then 9". It's too bad there aren't more 9.5" options.

Yeah, the only place that listed them was the Carid.com website. I had a good laugh on the pricing. Only $750ea! I think that pricing means "We don't really have these but will find you a set if you are willing to pay the price."

Here's a quick snap of my '71 parked at the trim shop waiting for a new vinyl top install. Drove straight from the body shop to Discount tire to mount my new Bandit rims. 17x8 front and 17x9 rear.

Yeah. It sits high in the saddle for some reason.

I had installed new Moog Springs 5400 front and CC501 cargo coils in back for a bit of rake. Got the rake but even the front is high.

I am going to have to get some lowering springs next year or go to standard coils in the rear and small block Chevy springs up front.

Tire sizes 215/50/17 Front and 245/45/17 rear.

Those are pretty small diameter tires for a GTO. 25.5" tall for the front and 25.7" tall for the rear. I think that is a major part of the reason for the "elevated" look.

There are tire options that can get you to into the mid 26's up front and around 27" out back that will help filling out the wheel well.

235/50-17 and 255/50-17 on my staggered 17" Year One Rallys work very well on my '73. One friend liked them so much, he copied them exactly for his '79. Nice amount of sidewall, tall enough to give mice wheel well fill, rides nicely, good traction.

Yeah. The angle of the pic makes it look a hoopster. It looks better in person.

I may just try another set of springs to bring the body down. Next year project.

275/40/17 has plenty of options..
