Tempest Hauler
The sun came out the other day so plugged in the block heater and got the old 359 Peterbilt out its garage for some pics. Ran out of warm weather and time to get THE LITTLE INDIAN EXPRESS hand painted on the sides. On the top and back of sleeper going to say YOGI'S RIDE (my newfoundland dog I take everywhere). Also looking to do an arrowhead on the back also. Trying to shift a 13 speed with no synchronizers is an experience. Had a wild idea to have it done for Norwalk 2012 but 2013 is looking better. See you there or be square!

Ya, need someone to show you how to float the gears, for what your going to be hauling you can skip some of those gears in a 13 speed. If you double clutch it each time you shift, your left leg will be bigger around than your right leg. Truck drivers only use the clutch to start out and stop.
Nice looking rig you have there...................... |

Maybe I should have bought 1 of those rather than pour money into my old school F350... Anyone want a '76 Ford???

A tandem axle is overkill for most race rigs unless you have something on the order of a NASCAR hauler with a lift in it. A single axle tractor is much better than trying to haul a big trailer with a 1 ton truck though. Usually a single axle tractor will get as good mileage hauling a trailer as a 1 ton truck will and do it a heck of a lot easier.
Two drawbacks is having a CDL, and your car insurance company will insure a a 1 ton truck, most insurance companies that do car insurance won't do a semi tractor or a medium duty truck so you have to have a commercial policy. |

With me it goes hand in hand. I buy the truck and then I'll buy a NASCAR rig to go with it. Besides, who doesn't need a lift in their trailer? It's like having a shop without a forklift.

These old trucks are getting popular. The last big truck show I went to had 950 registered. Have antique plates and is insured (agreed value) just like my cars and no cdl. JEGG'S big rig got fined before but they are advertizing and going to races to make money. There's a reason for NOT FOR HIRE-PRIVATE-RV on big trucks.

True, but you also have to watch the weight of the rig when towing, regardless of the truck used.

A couple states like Florida maybe Maryland-north or south Carolina require a permit $$$$ for over 60+ feet long. Lots of rigs out there 80+++. Don't see many at Pontiac events since where just a bunch of Good Ol Poor Boys. I am just going to pull my 22ft. car hauler.

Makes me think of some highway patrol horror stories I've heard. Guys getting ticketed as commercial drivers for hauling a car to a show and other bs like that because the "skunk" considers a trophy winnings/earnings. There is no way to drive a large rig without a target on your back. Can only reduce the target size with a little extra cya effort. When I haul I make damn sure anyone with me is on the same page, "we are part/car hunting/buying only" or "this car is being delivered to a shop for repair."
