How to ID a 12-bolt
I picked up a 12-bolt to stuff under my 66. It looked the same till I got it home and noticed the perches for the outside arms, shock mounts and coil perches were a little wider (have no clue what the rear came out of except it has the right pumpkin to put some deeper gears behind my overdrive).
Facing the input shaft on the pumpkin On the 3ish position are the letters BM At the 6 o-clock position are the letters CFO At the 8 o-clock position are the numbers 406208. At the 10 o-clock position are the numbers 174 I also noticed the pinion yoke doesn't have the "standard" U-bolt clamps...just a very large flange with 8 bolt holes, (pics up on the webshots link in my signature PG 4 of the CONVERTIBLE album) I haven't taken the cover off, but the gent thought them to be 3.08 opens...I really don't care because I'm looking to put 3.73s or 4.10s into the carrier and just wanted something I could build off of. But I can't find anything that will tell me what this came out of when I go shopping for parts. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2722...YU?vhost=rides Anyone have a site I can sift through or where to look for better numbers? It looks like a truck rear end. Many of them used flanges instead of u-joint yokes. They are not the same as a car 12 bolt.
