Default How old was your kid when you gave them a ride?

Just curious what age you guys gave your kids their first ride in your street/strip car.
I was 5 or 6 when my dad put my brother and me in his GTO and went down to the end of the track and played around. There was no seat in the car so my brother and I just held on tight to the roll bar. The car ran mid 11s back then.

Th oldest rode in the T-37 on day one when I picked it up in April of 1971. He was 3+ years old. Brought the younger son home in July of '72 when he was 3 days old
. Those boys both love that car. They are 44 & 48.

Well I think I was 3 the 1st time dad let me sit in the passenger seat of his 68 GTO while he warmed up the car...That was when that car had a ram air 5 455 in it....he drove down the return road took the first turn off on the track to get on the track ....He got on it in the shut down area hit 2cnd and let off and I'm pretty sure that's when I was hooked!

Both of mine were 3 when they got their first rides - just a lap belt on them too in the front seat. Took each of them out in my 72 WW5 and the trans had a manual valve body & shifted pretty hard. Our street & the one below it do a loop that's a little over a mile, no traffic, no other cars usually.

I still remember Cate's expression when we got back to the house and I shut off the car - Whew! and a huge smile.

My daughters both grew up riding in the 3rd seat of my Barrier Blue Catalina wagon 421 HO auto. We pulled a 19ft. boat with it for years and I put over 100K miles on it while they grew up. It was a mid-14 second car. Interestingly, just last night, my youngest daughter just bought a 2014 Dodge Charger, almost Barrier Blue. It would have been a new Pontiac, but as we all know THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS! Way to keep that generational loyalty going. She, like her dad, wouldn't be caught dead in a GM car after what they did to Pontiac.

I like to remind my 29 yr old son the first car he ever drove was my old 70 GTO. He was five years old and sat on my lap going through a construction site I was working on(after hours). He did not catch the car bug, LOL. He remembers he was scared when I did burnouts and knew it was going to get loud when I pulled the shifter down into low gear. Oh well, he still turned out great!

My kids got to go with me the very first time I drove my car back in 2011. They were 3 and 5 at the time and absolutely loved it.

While I was searching for the car that I now have, I was trying to explain to the kids what a convertible top was. I told them that the top came down and they could look at the sky. My daughter, who was 5 at the time, seemed to somewhat comprehend and responded........"you mean like a top hole?"

Now my car is referred to as "the tophole" at home.

Our daughter came home from the hospital(about a day and a half old) in Dec. of '70 in our 65 GTO. (4sp, tri-power,iris mist). It was the only car we owned at the time so she had no choice.

Wife and I brought Jake home in our brand new 98' Gran Prix. In 2001 I had my Trans Am at a car show. My wife came in a separate car with Jake. I started up the car after the show (12" turn downs after the headers) I turned to the passenger door and Jake was banging on it. He wanted to ride home with me. He was only 3. Lol. The wife & I also had Jake to Norwalk in 98' when he was 5 months old. It was my first Norwalk also.

My 3 kids were 5-9 years old when I would have them buckled in the back seat of the GTO. I would tell them to put their feet straight out and I would accelerate the car quickly. Their feet would raise up in the air and they would laugh. Good times! ( Hi Brian )

Actually I let my son take my car down the 1/4 mile. I think my son was 18, my car was only running 9.40's at the time BUT that was WAY too quick for a first timer. So I put a block of wood underneath my gas peddle and strapped him in.....it took him 4-5 passes down the 1/4 before he was able to keep the peddle down all the down the 1/4 mile.....he ran an 10.20 something at 120 mph plus. He came back shaking BUT he also had a BIG SMILE on his face and a moment he still talks about!
