If Dusty is not taking anything yet try Phycox chewables. My eight year old shepherd mix was born with hip dysphasia and is now like pup after being on these the past two years. We have tried the other stuff the vet sold us with no luck. He was carrying one back leg at one point. The sockets are half gone on both hips. Amazon is the cheapest place to buy these.

At about 13 years old, we noticed Tasha starting to drag her hind feet when she walked. Shortly after, other symptoms began showing up and eventually she was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy. That was a tough thing to watch her go through. She began having balance issues, and eventually began losing control of her bowels and occasionally her bladder. At the end, she couldn't maintain balance to go potty outside, so I had to hold her to keep her from falling. Over the last 6 months of her life, she had some tough times when she couldn't stand or eat and we made the decision to call the vet the next day, only to be greeted by a dog standing by her dish the next morning with her tail wagging. When the day finally came, we knew it was time, and we had the vet come to the house to put her to rest. She passed away peacefully with her head in my lap. The first 2 pictures are Tasha taken during her last camping trip with us. The last 2 pictures are our new dog Zeena, who is now 11 months old. Both dogs are extremely well mannered and both love to be around children. Zeena is a real people dog, and will greet everyone she meets like her best friend.

I've had GSD's for many years. Prior to that I owned many other breeds and in my opinion there is no better all around dog than a properly bred and trained GSD. My current one is an all black female of about 85lbs from German working lines (DDR)-a very serious dog! For anyone serious about these dogs I would recommend the Leerburg site. http://leerburg.com

I had one back when I was a kid. We'd ride bicycles all over the place and Tiger was always right there. You could tell he enjoyed it.
