Mark,
Your carb doesn't have and doesn't use a front pull-off.

The one on the rear does it all.

The other small one to the right is for ported vacuum to the distributor.
Look at the pic of the back of the carb. Choke pull-off is already connected.

Rule of Thumb can be applied here!

Once a engine starts up cold, the choke flap should be pulled open ( by the choke pull off ) enough such that a 1/8” drill bit will just fit between the choke flap and the choke tower wall.
And depending on the Cam the high idle speed may need to be 1800 rpm.

Default Progress - But Still Lousy

So today I pulled off the Holley and installed the Qjet. Got the idle mixture adjusted for best vacuum but it still ran like crap, wanted to stall out, etc.

Rethinking where I started from, I decided to retard the timing again back towards where it was at the beginning. I didn't go too far back - it's now around 2 deg BTDC and running better. Idle is better but still not smooth. Went for a drive and response is WAY better when I put my foot in it, but steady speed still misses & bucks a bit.

One issue I have is too fast an idle even with the idle speed screw backed out all the way. Went for a short drive and the engine does not slow down as it should when the throttle closes. Checked the return spring and that's OK - a little weak maybe but OK. The choke plate is wide open so that's not the issue.

Once when I had the clutch in at idle the engine speed dropped and it stalled out. Restarted and it was back to fast idle again.

Is there an adjustment I'm missing or maybe I have a gasket interference problem? Closing the throttle by hand doesn't result in any more movement - it seems to close via the return spring the way it should.

Sorry this thread has been going for so long....
