Front Control Arm Removal
Trying to remove the upper control arms - I have the nuts on the engine side of the shaft off, but the bolts are giving me trouble. The chassis manual just says "remove the bolts."
Is the pivot shaft threaded where the bolts go through? If so I've got to get an impact wrench ... they are stuck!

no not threaded. need to give them a good wack to get them out. they press in a bit and will not turn (have little flutes/ridges on the bolt that keep it from spinning).

Trip is right. There are splines on the bolts that keep them from turning. Use a center punch and a hammer. Place the center punch in the middle of the bolt so you don't mess up the threads and give it a couple of whacks.

Low-tech removal
My headers significantly reduce the clearance and access to the end of the shaft-to-frame bolts. To remove them, I simply used a "cats-paw" (hooked nail puller) to apply pressure to the end of the bolt, and twisted them out with a socket wrench. Worked like a charm for all 4.
