Where should the exhaust exit the rear of the '69 Firebird? The exhaust that was on there before would exit just behind the rear tires and was positioned between the leaf springs and the 1/4 pannel pointing downward. I have since installed a new 3" exhaust but it routes the tailpipes straight out the back. I checked the '69 GM Manual and it shows them going out the back, does that sound right?

I will route mine like yours was behind the the rear tire angled down about 45* or so.
As for being correct ? Did you use a PYPES 3" system? If so how did it fit? I just got
my X-kit and will probably take it to exhaust shop fri.

These are not a Pypes system - I must admit that I was negligent and didn't know Pypes when purchasing the others. The system I bought was a Torque Tech tailpipe kit, Dr. X cross over, and Spintech mufflers. Everything is mandrel bent so it's nice and free flowing. The tail pipes come out behind the rear tire but then angle to the rear. In the distance between the rear tire and the end of the pipe, there is another bend making a total of two bends there. It looks like it was done to keep it tight to the body but I'm thinking I'll cut the pipe where it exits down (behind the rear tire) before it angles to the back. Now the reason I started this thread is because I found a guy with a '69 Camaro that says his pipes are in the stock location and they are routed similar to what I have now. I've seen it exit in both locations - just not sure which is factory correct.

My duals come out between the 1/4 and the leaf spring. On both sides.
