Default pushrod checker

Do I need to swap out to a light spring to use a pushrod checker?

What length would I want for testing a Roller lifter setup 7.800 to 8.800?

Depends on the method you intend to use to verify pushrod length.
Some mark the valve tip with marker and rotate the engine, an adjustable pushrod checker will likely damage from regular spring pressure.
Using the Straub method you would be fine, there is no strain on the checker.

That’ll work but I like the hi-tech version. Each turn is .050” so no need to measure and strong enough to turn the engine over with springs installed to check pattern.
I checked the one I have with a Starrett OD mic and it’s dead nuts.

"Mark the valve tip" was the way I was going to do it.

I'm not familiar with the Staub method.

I assume your referring to this? That is pretty cool.
