im running those headers on my 72 bird with a 7qt milodon pan... clearance is tight but nothing like yours. i was considering putting some heat reflective tape on the pan in that area but havent done anything yet. could also get some header wrap for the tubes near the pan, might help reflect some heat. only other option is to "massage" the tubes in that area, or get a different pan. never used the canton pan but i can say the milodon is a very nice pan & i didnt have any issue with clearance... except for the starter, had to install it with the header bolts loosened so i could swing it out a bit.

with race parts, modifications are usually the norm.

I have a canton 6 qrt with hooker super comps on my 455, no problem with clearence to the pan. Only problem i have is my braided dipstick keeps burning. No clearence between the dipstick and headers, do you also have this problem? What dipstick are you using?
Thanks,
Daan

I have run the same headers with a 455 D-port engine &I think all the pans are to close the the tubes, no matter which headers you use. When I went to round port heads & headers there is a little more room because of teh way they are built & th amount of room between the ports on the round ports. About the only real soloution is to have headers made for your car & pan. I know it gets more expensive but they will be better & have a better fit. Or the last thing is to go back to RA exhaust manifolds.

arent the d-port super comps 1 7/8 tubes? the 2" are round port.

floffy: i use the stock dipstick with mine, fits great once installed & nowhere near a header tube. required a little fanagling when installing the header, had to bend the tube down a tad to clear the header flange. bend it back up when done & its all good.

I got the canton pan also and with my program splayed main caps I cant use the stock stick location, so I will be using the npt fitting on the pan, any clearance issues other than what u say? I bouth the solid one tho instead that can be bent etc. Im using KRE d port heads tho SO Headers will be different, Are u using round ports?

Darby I had issues with the Canton bung on the driver's side and my Hookers getting even the ministarter out. I had to bang the tube a little. Other Canton pan welded the bung and plug and ground it flat.

It is the roadrace second gen F body pan. 15-450 I believe.

https://www.cantonracingproducts.com...il-Pans/1.html

But the same on on the 500 IA I added and extra 1" and the one going on the new 455 for the 81 is a 452 I added more in front so the sump is the same length as the 450 second gen but deeper.

When I had the Milodon road race on my 78 there was never an issue with dropping the starter, found that out one day on the 78 when it needed to come off and that bung hit the starter, until I bopped the header a little

Yea with my power master , I have no issues with starter coming out with header on or hitting that bung on oil pan, I guess i wont know til i get it back in car and see how the stick fits. I'll still have the machine shop mock it up for the correct length just in case i can make it work, nice to know oil level

You can drill a hole in the baffle and use a stock dipstick.

I have a McLeod starter.

Forgot about the splayed although I used a stock type tube on my IA2 with just a little grinding on the cap and bolted the tube to the Spotts/IA windage tray. Don't remember if it was played or straight caps now though.
