is this a good deal on Cal Custom valve covers?
$77 shipped to me? Seller says no signs of cracks or damage...Also, can anyone tell by the part # 40-2200 if they fit Pont V-8?

Is there any way to tell if they'll polish up without handling them?

I like those...everything these days seems to be priced too high..if my paycheck would just adjust at the same rate.........
What does $77.00 buy these days...not much They look like they can be polished. They look smooth, and not pitted, I believe they'd work for you...

You'll be sanding a bit anyway so there isn't much you can't deal with.

Dave, I thought I had seen thread you created when you restored your valve covers but can't find it...

Good deal if they're Pontiac V8 Cal Customs. Won't sell the pair of Pontiac Cal Customs I have for that. I can ck on the casting numbers early in the AM.
On an engine build that uses roller rockers, one can get away with using the mid 60's-80's small block Chevy Cal Customs along with running Pontiac valve covers spacers that have been tweaked to accept the Chevy bolt pattern.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ght=cal+custom More info.....post 18, the basics...... http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ght=cal+custom The pic is AFTER an initial clean-up. The one in back had been polished on a little. I discovered that any areas not bright shiny aluminum had to be sanded with various grits of paper BEFORE they could be polished effectively...to remove oxidation (?). Mine have looked great for years with no additional polishing or painting. I did hit them with some Mothers last year before I put them on my 455 but honestly they looked great anyway. I did not clear coat them.

I have a set of those in near mint shape that came on a car I bought over 30 years ago. Agreed you got a good deal. I sure wouldn't sell mine for $77. My favorite aftermarket valve cover, in looks and quality.

You'll never have a leaky valve cover gasket again. Those Cal Custom's are straight and stiff. I run the rubber Felpro's and reuse them over and over and over.

After sanding I used a buffing pad with rouge that I mounted on my trusty Black and Decker bench grinder. I also have a flex shaft motor I used with a small buffer wheel.
Looking at your picture you will need to start with sanding.
