Default New Moultrie game cam power ?

I'll start by saying I did some research on this but it was so confusing I bout lost my head. Seems a simple question.

Got a Moultrie 150 8MP for my dad for his birthday. He refuses to use a computer, so I am on the hook for figuring all this stuff out. Thing eats batteries like crazy. Birds, coons, foxes, every furry thing on the planet passing by at all hours day and night.

The camera takes 6 C batteries (9V right?). They offered a power supply for it that is 12V. Now they don't seem to have the supply anymore and the solar is probably a bad option for his shady location. I figure it is on the side of the house, so we will just plug in a DC power supply. Well the 12V one I got outputs 16V, so I am not going to plug that in to it.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I am going to try hooking up a 9V supply to it since that is what it is running off of normally, but would appreciate any insight. I went on Chasinggame.com, but the thread on this is all over the place and creates more margin for error than just using my own intuition.

Seems like there is always someone with a cool head and a good solution in these parts.
