I'm removing a Holley that I installed on my 69 GTO 400 a looong time ago and I am putting a Qjet back in its place. The bolt that holds the choke tstat housing on the factory intake has been broken for longer than I can remember. How deep can I drill before I break through into something important? I plan on drilling the bolt out and running a blind tap to recreate some threads. Thanks in advance!

Think about going to an electric elec. choke. I think they gotem at adv auto pts. or the zone etc. Just ask for one for the 1980 pontiac qjet 17080272, it comes with a new spring. Remove heat transfer tube, remove old cover and spring watching how it goes back together(mainly where the spring goes), then reassemble, its easy,, then adj. choke and power it up ..drive.... that simple!!

6T9GTO - if the intake is off, weld (or if you weld like me, have a friend who can weld) through a nut onto the bolt. The heat from the welder will loosen the twisted bolt, and you can unscrew the bowl using the nut.

To exactly answer your question, post the year (or casting number) of your intake, and possibly someone would remove a bolt and measure the length.
