Is GM ready to kill Buick next?
Some buzz in the news about Buicks not selling anywhere but in China, Through the third quarter this year sales are down a 54% having sold 76,547 units compared to 163,745 last year In comparison Chevrolet lost only 3.9 percent, Cadillac is down 0.3 percent, and GMC is down two percent.
GM is also bleeding money with Buick having more dealerships (2000) as compared to say, Toyota (1500) and Nissan (1078). Only Jeep has more dealerships (2,415) but they historically sell 800,000 to 900,000 vehicles annually. Maybe they should have kept Pontiac after all?

They have 2000 dealerships? I feel like that number is skewed, as most Buick dealers are grouped in with GMC and sometimes Cadillac.
And no, Pontiac would be in the same situation right now.

They have only sold well in China for some strange reason.
I knew it would eventually haunt them to kill the performance brand. Even seniors don't buy Buicks anymore lol. |

I was blown away when they eliminated Oldsmobile, their oldest brand. I think Saturn even lasted longer than Olds. Shame. Not everybody wants a Chevrolet. Or a Cadillac.
GM hasn't built anything of interest to me in 50 years, though.

I think Buick is planning on updating their product line in the next few years. I like the looks of their Wildcat EV show car, if that's any indication of their upcoming styling.

Buick's death has been in the planning stages for a couple years. Should be gone in a year or two. Haven't looked at their demographics lately, but I just can't imagine ANYONE under 70 buying a new one. Did Buick build a single vehicle after the GN/GNX that anyone would be passionate about owning? I can't think of a single one. BICK, "the only thing missing is U". or any other American.

First High Demand American Vehicle sold there, years ago. At least 4 times the volume of a Ford sold there in the beginning of that 15 years run. No surprises though if it gets dropped. Just like the Russian Sales of Ford Vehicles attempted 3 times. Agree totally, Mike. Tom V.

No. My love for Buick stops at 1987. Still, I understand why they kept them around instead of Pontiac. Globally the numbers weren't there, and here on the homefront the numbers weren't much better.

Used to buy a Riviera every couple years up until '85, that's arguably the last well styled Buick. It shared some chassis pieces with Olds and Cadillac, and it had an Olds engine, wasn't a bad car at the time. The front drive Riviera's were great in the snow. Also bought a Skyhawk T Type that year, just a fancier Cavalier but not totally rebadged. Those were the last Buicks we ever bought.
Saw the Buick Avista concept a few years ago, if GM built that, it would get me back into a new GM vehicle again.

Check out the CT4/CT5 Sport or V series from Cadillac. These cars handle extremely well, have good power with the CT4 Sport versions 237 HP 2.0L turbo. If you want more power, the V Series will give you a 325 HP 2.7L turbo . If even more power is needed, the V Blackwing has a 472HP 3.6L twin turbo and a 6 speed manual available. The CT5 Sport comes with the same 2.0L turbo as the CT4. But the V series has a 360 HP 3.0L twin turbo and the V Blackwing comes with a 668 HP 6.2L V8 supercharged V8 and also has the 6 speed manual available. I have a 2021 CT4 Sport as my daily driver now, which replaced my 2014 ATS. I loved my ATS so much I purchased the new CT4 (new version of the ATS). I expected it to be a very nice replacement, but was rewarded with a much better vehicle in virtually every aspect. It handles better, rides better, gets better fuel economy and is even more comfortable. I think if you take one for a drive, you'll be impressed. |

A guy in our car club just went to Texas to pick up a Blackwing. Why? Where he could get it. Also the dealer has Pontiacs. Also one of the Cadillac engineers has connections to Pontiac. Hmm. The new Blackwing owner told me.

Nice! I was looking for a CTS-V, drove an ATS sport and ALMOST decided I could go with the smaller car (I'm 6'5"), but ended up grabbing a CT6-V and haven't regretted it for a minute.

Looking like that FUGLY CT5 That thing looks like a Chevy citation from The 80s. What a turd . That’s exactly the kind of thing that makes me NOT buy a GM product. It’s clunky , lines don’t flow, the panel joints stick out like a sore thumb You’re certainly entitled to your opinion but I’m entitled to mine as well and I see no comparison in looks between those two cars . My brother did have a GM car that was pretty good looking like the drawings the olds aurora , I think it was and that oddly didn’t sell that well but it was a great car. Actually I looked back at the aroura and that was fugly too.

The way a Buick should look and feel. Massive, quiet, comfortable, with a pillow soft suspension.

Reatta? Supercharged LeSabre? I was definitely surprised when they killed Pontiac and kept Buick.

Pontiac was killed by the feds during bailout "negotiations", it was revealed a couple years later. We'll have to discuss that elsewhere. |

You guys that say Buick has not built anything exciting since the GN have probably never driven a 2012 or newer Regal GS. That is a great car, I owned a 2016 for a couple of years, before buying my truck. It has a turbocharged 2.0 4 cylinder making 260 hp. Some were available with a manual transmission and all-wheel drive was an option. It handled very well and is fun to drive. All lot of us "GM employees" are and have been going to work every day since Covid started. I work in Global Safety with Product litigation, and lawsuits never stop. With over 70% of the world's lawyers and any stupid crash you cause or are involved in is not your fault, according to them, we stay pretty busy.
