Another pic at an angle. I remember my first LED tail lights four years ago were even more faint when viewed at an angle. These pass the test. I'm really stoked to get them wired up permanently.

Could you do a daytime comparison pic? I don't have a lot of problem seeing my friend's '66 brake-lights at night, but it does become a challenge in the bright sun.

I'm going to just post post after post. Seems easier to explain each pic step by step

Here is what the slow boat brought me. They all have a thin black aluminum frame. I removed them be carefully bending back the frame where it is crimped on. One the right is one with the frame removed..

Here is the acrylic sheet I got from lowes. Remember. Don't use plexiglass.

The acrylic sheet fits into the lens. So leaving the protective covers on the acrylic, lay the lens down and trace the lens and the I drew a line approximately an eighth of an inch inside. So the inside line is the cut line. Crack out the jig saw and rough cut it out.

Once it's trimmed so it fits in the stock lens I removed the protective covers from both sides. In the pic there are three arches at the bottom. I was planning on using those to ru. The wires out to the housing but found out it was a nicer and cleaner install to simple drill small holes and run the wires through individually.

Next hold the lens and acrylic to the light and transfer the center lines onto the acrylic to help center the LED strips. Remember to place the strips a little bit lower then the center line because of the louuvers and the viewing angle of the person behind you. I will have to readjust mine

I took the three small positive and negative wires from each column and soldered them into one red and one black wire per column. The LED wires are so small it is difficult to strip them with out damaging the wires. I found the best way was to slightly score half with a razor and the. Take my thumbnail and pull the sheathing off. You might want to practice.

So now each column has one red and one black wire. Put the housing back together and run the wires out the old bulb holes. Tomorrow I'm going to make the other side and give details on the wiring.

It doesn't look like it will be necessary. When I made my first set years ago I noticed that the red LEDs seemed to glow brighter than the brighter white LEDs though the stock red lens. I am still going to experiment today with it. I ll post pics of the differences side by side. If it does make a difference the tint is like 8 bucks.

a good way to strip any wire without damage is to use a lighter and heat up the plastic and pull it off with your fingers...gloves could help

If you'd have left the wires separate for each lens section Vic, you could have gone with the sequential signals from Web Electric Products. Combined with your LED setup it would look great.

BTW.. it's the Universal Sequential kit for 3 lights each side that I use.

They are wired by section to run in conjunction with my existing sequential light setup. They will be sequential.

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that it's going to cost a little bit more. The good news is you won't need diodes and wiring will be easier. Instead of 9 led strips per side you will need 15 per side. 9 for turn sig and brake lights and 6 for run on light. The dimmer appently has to have its own ground to the LEDs to work correctly so it can't be shared with the brake/turn function. I ll post pics and details later.
