Big difference between reg e-heads like you have vs the pro port e-heads discussed in this thread

Other than the design of the casting, what are the other differences? The CNC program can’t run much longer than the one does on the original e heads. The castings weren’t much more when they were available in the past.

So, I have to ask. Where is the 4000.00?

Do the castings still come without the guides and seats installed?

My understanding is they come with very small ports, no chamber bowl work, and no guide installation. RAW CASTINGS. Chunks of aluminum.

Correct, which causes machinig time to go way up.

Casting cost twice as much as a bare rpm e-head

Its my understanding that twin turbos like ports that are not that big. Chief can literally run any Pontiac head he wants to. Yet he runs a little E head that does not flow all that much. I bet his port shape would be terrible NA.
No reason for you to have a 8K set of heads. NA guys need them, you don't.
Marty rocked tiny D ports and we all know what he did .
Looking forward to see how your car ends up. Keep doing what you are doing.

In addition to all the other comments above, the price I was quoted also includes the insert between the center two exhaust valves. The last time I had that done to a set of heads it cost $850 for the machine work and the material.

When I shipped my raw Pro Port castings to BES each head weighed around 48lbs. It will be interesting to see how much they weigh when I get them back.

So they have new pricing. They used to be in the 2000.00 range for a pair.

Looking at BES's web site I notice it lists this as the small port program. Does anyone know if they have a large port program for Pontiac?

So all of you 1.000 inch cam lift guys post up your camshaft specs.

I personally concentrate on the .800 inch lift flow numbers. About 440 cfm.

Everyone i talked to said that a boosted and NA head both want the same thing. Supercharged is a different story.

Bigger port means more power at the same boost

Sure, bigger port means more power at the same boost.

Yet Chief can run a head with 130+ more cfm, but does not. If he put much larger heads on he would have to make a bunch of changes to be at the same boost he was before.
He makes about the same power with his puny little inline junk heads as that TT billet block canted valve Warp 6 engine that flow much, much more with a much larger CSA.
He has very good people like Quinlan working with him. Using his program for a example would be wise IMO.

I think CSA is going to matter much more than cfm in a boosted engine since the limiting factor is the smallest section of the port and the size of the valve and you are just shoving air though it with a giant pump.
A good NA port needs to accelerate the air simply based on vacuum, difference in pressure from one side to the other. Science and shape matter more .
Supercharged is boosted right ?

Yep, and they look pretty big for a head that only flows 330cfm. A big hole matters more for what he is doing. Kinda looks like a LS port.

Butler and Tony B are partners in the deal. No difference in prices.

Not sure that Travis has much time to help Chief the last couple of years.
Chief has got it figured out.

Travis is working for NASA so he is not helping guys tune their engines much these days, from what I understand.
Course there is still the phone.

But I will agree Travis Q is a very smart guy and a excellent high HP Tuner.
