Default New Member and GP Owner

Hello,
Great to find PY online. I always wanted a 1970 Pontiac GP, well I finally got my chance. I located a one owner with 74500 miles in great shape. It even has that wonderful 8 track tape behind the driver. Of course being 40+ old there are a few things it needs. Thats the car....not me, I am as good as I can be at my age.

I look forward to all members feed back and help as will I lend any expertise I can to other members.

Welcome Wes, you have found the best Pontiac site in the world.

What a beautiful GP! Doesn't look like it needs much, but ask away.

Default Thanks for the warm welcome

I have yet to completely check it out, but needs headliner, driver seat recovered, and new front brake hoses....these are hard as a rock. The owner did not drive it much, but did keep it services. Oh yes, the a/c and clock are inoperative ,big surprise huh. I will probably deal with that next year. I am very pleased, it drives like a dream and it is in extremely good condition. I need to find out if it still has the original nylon timing gear in the old 455. Yes on the SJ model.

Welcome to PY.
Had a '70 SJ. One day my wife came to where I worked. She had never done that before in the 2 + years I had worked there. She looked upset so I asked her what was wrong. She said, "Did you know our car will do 85 in second gear?". I asked why she was doing going 85. Her response was that she was attempting to pass a car that was poking along and when she did he speeded up so she just floored it to get around "him". (She learned to drive in a '65 GTO, automatic). Then she said. "When it shifted gears the back tires squeaked. Is it supposed to do that?" I was at a loss for words.
Loved that GP. Enjoy yours. Great looking car. Real soft spot for them.

Wes: I believe you'll find that the timing gear is metal, not nylon. At least that's what I've found on all my 455s.

Default Glad to find this group!

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes I was lucky finding this car, I use to work on all the cars in high school, sorry PMD 1969, I am more a Fleetwood Mac kinda guy. LOL, thanks for the info on the timing gear, I was concerned it might shead itself and tap the valves! I have a few items coming from OPG, but be driving this weekend. I just love it when it's " made in the USA".

I do now have an wide selection of 8 track tapes ......don't know how good they are!

You should really try shopping for your resto parts from our host! You'll find the service is a LOT better than OPG's!
