Default WS-6 question

were WS-6 cars the only 78's that came with the small brace bars between the frame and A arm mount?

may be parting a car that has the braces and wonder if it has the good steering box?

Those braces were specific to WS6 T/A's but I'm thinking that they didn't start till 1979?

I will have a looksee.

Do you have a photo of it WB?

The Clymer 70 to 80 FB shop manual says it should have that brace on all FB independent front suspensions. So I'd say WS6 FBs were not the only ones to have it.

Personally,I wouldn't put TOO MUCH stock in what Clymer has to say about it.

I get the impression from reading their manuals that they figure that Firebirds & Cameros are the SAME.

Those braces were DEFINATELY WS6 T/A only.

There was a similar one used on late 70's Z28's,but it looked MORE like a piece of angle iron & was a bit longer.

The braces are DEFINITELY a WS6 only thing. I have torn apart both and never seen them on anything but a WS6. If the car has them, and the original steering box, it should be the WS6 box.

The WS6 boxes had a few performance enhancements over the ALREADY respectable WS4 box.

I don't believe that there are ANY external clues or markings that would tell you that it IS a WS6 box,so you better know/confirm the status of the "donor" car.
