Default Alternator upgrade

I'm still collecting parts to start the resto on my 70 GTO. I'd like to know what's involved in upgrading the original 37amp alternator to a 55amp (or more, if possibile.) I'm not concerned about matching NO#s, but I do want to keep a strictly stock look, so I need to stay with external regulator, etc. Is it a simple bolt in, or is there more to it? Any wiring harness mods? Thanks!
