It's been a while, but the car is finally booked in for a compliance inspection on December 30th. COVID lockdowns really slowed the whole process....
I have a number of things to correct on the car prior to the inspection and I'm working through them now. I have the headliner out currently as the foam degraded and the vinyl fell away. I'm also trying to get the windshield washer pump operational. I bought a 1981 Honda CB900F with me to NZ and that passed compliance really easily. Keeping my fingers crossed that the T/A will as well.

They love their bikes in NZ ... vintage piece like that and people might have had a sudden attack of blurry vision or something

Good eye! Aside from a fork brace the only other major changes are Dymag wheels and 31mm Keihin CR's. Frame, motor and bodywork are stock - she has 32K miles.

Slowly getting through the list of things that need to be done ahead of the compliance check on the 30th.
Not sure if it was the heat or the humidity in the shipping container, but the headlining completely came away from the backing board during the trip. The mirror button came unglued from the windshield as well. Removed the headliner last week and had it recovered - got it back in today. I just need to refit the seatbelts. Also removed the trim rings to clean up the wheels - and glued the mirror back on to the windsheild.

Nobody in their right mind would prevent that car from being on their countries roads
In fact, it should be on the NZ flag!

I noticed no shoulder belts. Is that mandatory there?

I re-used the backing board. It's actually a plastic reproduction that I bought when the car was painted back in 2004. The material that was put on back then has held up well, but something about the shipping caused the material to fall away completely - not sure if it was the temperature or the humdity. I had a local upholstery shop strip the old material away and glue on a new peice. It doesn't look perforated in the pictures, but it is. Hopefully it holds up OK because it's not a fun job to replace.

Got the belts reinstalled yesterday. The webbing was faded in the exposed areas so I decided to see if I could revitalize them a little. Mixed up a bottle of RIT Fabric liquid dye with a cup of vinegar, (very) hot water and a drop of dishwashing liquid. Soaked and stirred them for an hour and they came out like new - very happy with the results!

Up at 7AM this morning to load up and follow the flat bed to Tauranga for the long anticipated compliance check that was scheduled for today. Only to find out they were closed. Paid to have the car bought back - $800 in towing for NOTHING.
Thanks AA Tauranga you useless sons of bitches!@#$%!

Did you notice the license plate on the tow truck.

I did - but I couldn't quite make sense of it. I meant to ask the driver - but I was too busy jumping up and down and yelling obscenities at the empty inspection center .

Yikes - $800 for a tow? I just had one done for $70 for the hook up + $6/ mile. (AAA took themselves too seriously and refused to tow a car with no engine.)
