Default Getting axle tubes welded-Is it a good idea?

I am looking into getting the axle tubes welded to my 8.5" center section. In another thread it came up that this may do more harm than good. I'm just curious if anybody had any pro or cons to doing this? Here is a link that says it may not be the way to go,so it's got me wondering.....

I'd rather take my chances welding them than not if you're running slicks. I've welded several in the last 40 years, haven't screwed up any yet. The last couple I done, I used a mig welder. You just have to take your time and weld 3/8 or so at a time. Go side to side and then rotate a housing till you get all the way around. It does take a while to do.

Your suppose to use a certain rod to weld between cast and dom. Not sure what it is but it's recommended to blend the two metals. Good Luck! JD

I was not going to be doing it myself. I would have the welding done by somebody with a jig.
Thanks for the opinions!

I've always done it without any problems. Broke a housing on one that wasn't welded.
