Default Stock 69 GTO Shudders On Takeoff

My 69 GTO (original stock 400, T400) sometimes shakes a bit when leaving a stop sign even at slow speeds. Car has a stock converter. But when I had a B&M Holeshot 2000 converter, it did the same thing. Not at every stop but like 2-3 times on a 30-mile round trip to work. This is a street car and like to keep it stock. Really feels like a converter issue. Engine idles smooth.
Any ideas?

Does the tranny fluid look brown and smell old or varnishy? I have seen late model GM tranny's do that, and I think it is from the clutch's not holding good since it act's like a clutch chattering in a manual tranny car.

If the fluid is good, maybe it's a pressure issue. I'm certainly no auto tranny expert though, I'll be the first to admit that, although I have built one before.

Its eitheir trany rebuild time, or you have a flow restriction in the cooling lines, or the shift cable has come out of adjustment, or the filter is clogged.
I would carefully look over the cooling lines to the radiator for pinch points.
If that checks then get a lenght of hose and two clamps and jump out the cooler section in the radiator to confirm there is no problem with that restriction wise.
Does the problem get better or worse as the car gets driven?
Does the trany shudder thet same way in reverse?

Question

Don't know what trans. you have but does it do the same thing if you put it in manual low gear and start out and does it do it in rev.----BOB

Make sure your rear brakes are adjusted properly and free that can cause the same issues.

before diagnosing any tranny issue 100% make sure engine is good running order - no misfires
check motor mounts
check tranny cross member
