The 068HL is the 2041 shown in Darby's list. Its specs are 222/232@.050, .450/.470" lift @1.5, 113 LSA, 109 ICL, and 70 degrees valve overlap. We've got two of them in service right now.

A friend gave me 2041 after deciding not to go with it...had it for years but never got around to putting it in.

Just wondering how it would work on my car:

Stock '70 Judge, 4 speed ( wide ) 3.55 rear. Too much? How's the idle?

I believe the stock cam ( I beileve that's what's in it ) allows too high cylinder pressure for the C/R. I'm constantly fiddling with timing to stop pinging.

Thanks.

I'm sure Rocky can tell you for sure, if he has one in a 400, but I'd expect that cam to be real nice in a high compression 400 backed up by a 4-speed and mid 3-series gearing. The wide LSA will tame it down and it's not all that long of a duration to begin with. Right in between to the Summit 2802 and Crower 60916 in terms of both duration and lobe separation and both of those cams have proven to work very well in engines such as yours. I would expect a bit of a lope to the idle, or what you might call a noticeable burble, plenty of vacuum for brakes (probably 16" or thereabouts depending on initial timing and manifold design), and a slight loss of low end compared to the factory cam but a large increase in midrange and top end power. This cam would really work best with headers and a good exhaust. Would work okay with RA manifolds and a good exhaust too. Will still work with log type manifolds but will lose significant power from 4000+ with them compared to the other systems.

Thanks Will. I'm running the stock RA manifolds but have a new Pypes system w/X-pipe ready to install, and I welcome a chop at idle. It sounds like a good project this winter.

TR, sorry I hadn't had a chance to reply sooner. Will's got it pretty much covered though. The 2041 works pretty well. When I purchased my '76 it had a stock-rebuilt 462 with 70 #15's. Compression was a real 10.0 to 10.25:1 and it had a Comp 268H cam. It ran well but pinged with a moderate advance curve, so we had to run it retarded. I then installed the 2041, lost no power whatsoever, picked up a ton of drivability, and had no more detonation related issues with a normal advance curve. I think you'll be pleased with the 2041 in your Goat, especially with the 3.55 gears and a manual trans.
