I'll be in the aparent minority here as I've had very good luck with Nissans in our family. I had a '94 Maxima that was running great until my wife totaled it with about 75k miles. Only put tires, 1 set of brakes and oil changes. Replaced it with a '99 Maxima and ran it until 128k. Sames as prior but needed to replace 2 coils and CV boots. That was it.
Mom has an '00 I30 (Infiniti's Maxima) about 115k and just had CV boots done. Otherwise running solid. Brother has had 2 G35's and a Q56 with no real issues.

I currently have a '07 G35S i bought 2 yrs ago with only 5k miles. Had an issue with some trim pieces that peeled (it was a problem with that new year model) but dealer replaced under warranty with no issue. 28k now and no issues.

Nephew recently got a '06 G35 with 100k. It came from up North and the exhaust and calipers were rusted. Body is fine. It is the only one in the family to have any rust issues at all. Must be a Nothern thing.

My only gripe with Nissan is relatively poor gas mileage.

Bought a new Nissan pickup in '88. Truck was a POS that I got rid of after 2 years. Never again, only GM for me. We love our new Cruze.

Seems to be a mixed bag.

My sister has a new Rogue, but she said it's not as nice as the early '00s Hyundai SantaFe she replaced beacuse of rust(she parks on the dirt at home). She said the new SantaFe was out of her price range.

I have an old '86 200sx, and I had an '84 before that one. And I'd buy another one if it would just show up at the right time and not be completely crunchy - on several occasions I have even put up WTB ads on the Local CL and respective Nissan web sites. I'd also like to get a hold of a 240sx non hatch too. But other than that, I don't know that I'd buy a new Nissan.

Seems to me that their early to mid '90s products seem to be the best built(outside of this particular thread), but I don't hear such raves about the company's newest products as much.

In 2008 I rented a 2008 Nissan Versa. It had 7200 miles on it and after I drove it for a week, the trans started to go. The replacement was a Pontiac G6 with 60k on it. The G6 got slightly better mileage than the Versa despite being a bigger car with a bigger engine.

If I was looking for a smaller car, I'd take the G6 in a second over the Versa.

Renault (Makers of quality French vehicles like the R8, the Dauphine, the Le Car and the "Appliance" as well as many others) have a big stake in Nissan now that they didn't have in the '90s. I beleive the Nissan Versa is actually some kind of Renault project. I ahve never been a Nissan fan (or a fan of any foreign cars for that matter (just my personal preference) but after working on vehicles for 30 years I can say that something like a 1990 300ZX is IMO, a much better quality vehicle than a 350Z as an example. All you have to do is open the door to see the difference. The 300 has a nice tight door on it and a good choice of materials on the interior, and is comfortable to sit in. The 350Z has a flimsy handle on it, and a big cheap plastic door panel, and the seat is uncomfortable. The twin turbo 300 is also a more refined sounding engine than the 3.5.

Its like anything else....good and bad...

From what I have read the V6 engine in those Nissans and G35 cars is pretty much bullet proof one of the ten best....appears the rest of the vehicle don;t measure up however.

Not much can stand up to what stuff they put on the northern roads my area they spray down that brine...brings alot of business for replacing brake lines.

As for rust, I always from the rear axle back on any SUV or truck I buy used...especially if it has a trailer receiver....

Mine (2000 model) got bad enough last year that I swapped the bed rather than fixing it.
My friend had an 05 f250 6L, that thing got both doors and the tail gate replaced before it was 3 years old, Ford paid for it.
