Heater Core Question
Looking for opinions please.
I am working on my heater core and housing. I have removed the original Harrison heater core, and it appears to be in fairly decent condition. Is it worthwhile getting the Harrison core pressure tested/ repaired or just buy a new Napa heater core? When I feel the weight of the Harrison core it seems to heavier than a new replacement core. I don't care about the Harrison name being there, I just don't want to do this job again and replace a leaking heater core because I used a cheap replacement instead of the OEM Harrison core. Thanks. That Harrison heater core is nearly half a century old. It could go another 50 years or leak tomorrow. I installed a new GM/Harrison copper heater core in my '71 Trans Am back in 2000 when they were still available from the dealer and recently I've noticed the sweet smell of antifreeze coming out of the vents. Regularly changing the antifreeze every 3-5 years helps but there is no guarantee how long a heater core or radiator will last.
