i would venture that the convertible exhaust dport and v heads would dissipate heat better than the conventional exhaust layout.

Not quite as exotic, but most of Mickey's Pontiac efforts employed milling off the exhaust faces of the heads and using the "conversion flanges" from his catalog.

Whats cool about this design is the push rods are not in the way of the intake runners. With this setup, intake & exaust port size is only limited by length of the head.

JC has a good eye. Looks like at least an inch tall deck plate between block & heads.

Saw those Thompson side port heads shown earlier in this thread in 1993 at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield. Took pics of them, they were in the swap meet. They have been around.

Bruce Crower copied this idea and built a side port sbc about 3O years ago with turbos. If I remember well, it displaced only around 2OO inches and made over 1,2OOhp. Was featured in detail in Hot Rod magazine, early 7Os. someone must have a copy around.
I started to build a side port Pontiac head based on a 67O casting in 1984 but ended up getting into nostalgia racing and preferred using a Roots between the heads.

Neat stuff with a lot of potential though off of the thread topic.
