Default Do Not Call *dot* Gov

We were just in Florida visiting my father and was complaining about sales calls coming in. I registered his phone numbers on the "Do Not Call" list so he won't get as many calls.

I highly recommend that everyone get their numbers registered.

I did it a few years back but went through the process again just in case.

Going to do it right now, the telemarketing calls have been getting out of control once again.

I don't even answer the phone anymore.

Thanks,
Mark

Keep in mind that there are several exceptions to the Do Not Call list. If you've ever done business with a particular company, they're allowed to call you. And I believe non-profits/charities, plus political campaigns are allowed to call.

Also, "theoretically" no one is allowed to telemarket a cell phone, whether you put it on the list or not.

I had thought that too but in the last 3 months the wife & I have both received numerous calls on our cell #s. It's like telling a car thief they can only steal red cars on Mondays....do we really think a telemarketer is worried about following rules?

The fine for these calls is $11,000 per call.

Who gets the $11k, the people they bother with their calls or the lawyers?
We've tried reporting similar calls to the FTC & the AG with zero results. Even after being placed on the DNC list we still had telemarketers calling the home line. Requests to be removed from their call list simply got a hang up from them and another call down the road. I guess I'm just skeptical of how effective the do not call list really is as it didn't do much for us.

Anyone that needs to get in touch has our cell #'s & will call us there, the only calls to our home # are telemarketers. We now have the answering machine turned off & don't answer it thru the week. If the wife didn't need a land line for conference calls we'd drop it in a heartbeat.

I hear you.

I am ready to drop the land line all together and don't really care if I would be missing out on something. There is always a work around somewhere. I am tired of the bogus phone calls.

In the last 2 years when filling anything out that requires a phone number, I have put a synchronized number down that way no call will be coming to me and they don't have the chance to solicit my number to others.

If they want me they have my email

That's nice, we're the ones being harassed and they get the money
