I've actually put a little thought into this... it seems to me all they're doing is registering your website with major search engines like google, bing, & AOL. You can do this yourself quite easily for free.

SEO is not where it's at - social networking is. You need to have a Twitter and F/B presence (LinkedIn is also a very good place).

Further, if your not using the engines themselves (to help you find prospects) then the SE's (and S/N's) are all but useless. It is not only about 'being found' it is being able to 'find prospects' for yourself!

Check out the following: http://www.jonrognerud.com/utilizing...s-infographic/.

Hope this helps!

It appears now days you also have to have a mobile application for your website or you can plain old hang it up.

actually there's so much more to it than that...just registering a website is just the first step...a registered crappy website will likely pop up after page 2 or 3 of a search & the statistics show that most searchers don't even make it to page 2...the best spot is #1 of course, top 5 is excellent, as you rank lower your results of "hits" decreses substantially.

actually it's best if you can do both, however, if you only have the resources\time to manage one & manage it well, SEO is where it's at. if you assume that everyone that has a computer has an internet search option, you can also assume that all of them don't have twitter & facebook accounts AND research AND statistics have shown that the majority of consumers who want\need a service or a product will search for it first via google & the like...THEN they'll consider their FB friends and the like.

the prospects that find us thru technology find us thru the google type searches WAY more frequently than FB or twitter...we have both & manage both.

FB & twitter are key media to keep us connected to those that already know us or are our clients already...yes, they generate an occasional prospect....but then so do the yellow pages...

This is a fun one. Sorry for being out of the loop, but what is the website? There is so much to consider when trying to market a website and achieve a good page rank.

-Before you even consider developing a mobile site or even putting time into social media outlets, segment your markets!!!!! Figure out who EXACTLY you want to sell/market to and figure out their demographics. Get specific age groups, incomes, and education levels as a starting point. When you start segmenting your market, you can better utilize 3rd party research that has already been done. The demographics of the poeple on your site should heavily influence the way the site is laid out and developed.

-For SEO, the way you get a better page rank is by having content-rich pages. The way that Google ranks pages is by running thousands of algorithms that scan web pages and rank them by how rich the content is on websites. They have built in a lot of algorithms that catch when a site is hiding keywords for a search in the back of a page, so having words that appear too often can actually decrease your page rank. One of the best ways to increase your page rank is to add a blog to yours site under your site's domain. By maintaining and updating a blog that utilizes key words for your website in stories, updates, etc. you can start to increase the rank of your page among others.

There's a whole lot you can do to increase your page rank without having to pay anyone. Do a simple Google search on SEO and you'll be surprised by how much info that's out there.

A lot of good information here. Thanks.

Ive talked with two developers today and all I can say is that Im really confused. One claims that I should move my site off an HTML platform for easier rankings organically and use something like Wordpress that indexes the pages better. Hes not a believer (at least not yet) that my niche business is a good fit for Google ads.

The other wants me to add more content to the site and use keywords more strategically. He wants to immediately use Google ads.

The Chicago suburban area is very diverse. I want to make sure I market to the right people. You could easily be in one town that has a lot of wealthy people and moved a mile out of town to a Hispanic community. My demographic is in the middle to the upper scale. Im currently using FB ads and marketing to specific cities and age groups. My return is not what I had hoped it would be and I shut it off today.

I started a blog a month ago and I see good results but I cant get the everywhere. So it helps just a bit. I had a retail customer call me from the result of my blog yesterday. That felt good.

Heres the site. The customers Im going after is the Retail direct market. We have Fleet and especially Dealer Services moving nicely. We service over 50 dealers each week and just picked up four new fleet accounts that have over 150 trucks. The Dealer Services division still has a ton of room for growth. We have three techs, one sales person and me running the show.

http://nofoggyheadlights.com/ or http://www.seebettersystems.com/index.html They both go to the same place.

Many people look at this business and think its silly. I can say that silly is going to equate to just over $300K in sales this year moving at this pace. What I need to do RIGHT NOW is get found somehow for the "spring clean up" season. Those who detail their car and see off color or crusty headlights will be looking for a permanent solution other than the cheap store bought products. And we want to be that solution.

Those who have posted here, please take a look around the site. Share thoughts.

I think you just got some free advertising, congrats! As far as the platform you're using I've screwed around with Weebly http://racingarizonaperformance.racingarizona.info/ and don't really see a big difference between the two. As far as Google ads, if you start a business that doesn't really exist like I did then google ads might be a good idea...

I've also screwed around with forums, mainly because I think blogging sucks. As far as free forums go I'd have to say simple machines http://www.simplemachines.org/ is one of the better. The problem is you'll have to pay for hosting but a google ad or two should help off-set that cost providing you have actual traffic. Good luck to all.

Html5 (versus html as we know it today) will also give you a site that is more adaptable to mobile vs tablet vs desktop browsers. Problem may be finding html5 compliant browsers. The BlackBerry (playbook and bb10 browsers rank high in html5).

To really leverage html5 you need to use css3. More details here: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/

Mine is a wordpress site and works nicely in both mobile and apple applications. Very well supported and fairly easy to program in.
