Very cool. I'd be interested in any stories he shared about trans am motor builds! I would also be interested in period trans am parts if you decide to sell. I built the 1969 Z/28 Ken Stoddard Trans Am car that was at MCCAN in Chicago last year.

If you arent comfortable answering I understand, but if you dont mind me asking, ball park what did you get for the 72?

Im really considering shopping for a 68-72. I have a budget of about 30k. Im hoping to get into a nice driver for about 20, then use the leftover 10 to have an OD 5 speed and vintage air put in. Im fine with a small block car, and dont overly care about originality.

You'll have plenty to chose from for 30K.

I'll sell you my '71 LT-1 4 speed for 30k. Original paint garage kept California car with matching numbers original engine. Not a cherry mint points judged show car... but a nice driver.

I have to admit, I'm surprised at the number of guys here with ties to both the GTO and Corvette. Lots of very nice cars shown, thanks for the contributions.
Even though I've liked them since the 70's, I never thought I would have one of my own. In my case I sort of "inherited" my Corvette. It belonged to a friend who was having me build another 67, a 427/400 a/c 4 speed. He passed away mid way of the build, so I finished it for his daughter. She and I worked out a deal for the remaining Corvette. She asked that I put some miles on it before sending it to her in Florida. Here is my 86 y.o. Mom about to take her first ride in a Corvette.
She liked it.

That is certainly a "Kodak" moment.

I’ve owned a 79 and a 99, liked them both but the 99 was the best to drive, very well engineered. I really appreciate my 69 400 4 speed but for different reasons. When I sell my 69 Z28, maybe this year, I’ll maybe buy another Corvette.

When I was in my early 20s I had a new 1980 Trans Am. My cousin had a 63 Split Window Coupe Corvette, it had fuel injection emblems, dealer installed air and side pipes. My cousin took a real shine to my Trans Am and offered to trade me if I would finish paying off the Trans Am which had a new price of $8600. I declined, which was one of the dumbest things I ever did. Since then I have always wanted to own a Corvette and last year I bought a 2019 Grand Sport Corvette with a 7 Speed Manual Transmission. I wanted to Z06 but the insurance premium was more than I could afford monthly so I got the Grand Sport.

I saw one of those new (C8?) vettes the other day that had the weirdest paint scheme I've ever seen. It was painted all white on the driver's side and all black on the passengers side. Straight down the middle. If you were looking at it straight from one side, you'd never see that the opposite side was different. It looked like factory paint.
Is there some significance to that or just a guy with strange tastes?

Greg, lots of the exotic car guys have vinyl wraps done to change the look, some of them pretty strange. That might have been the case, he wants to run with the Lambo boyz.

Yeah, I didn't think of vinyl wrap. Might have been.

The purple/yellow special edition vette with yellow wheels from around 2000 was ~different~
Might have been a pace car edition.
I don't want to critic it any past saying it was different, somewhere out there are people who own them and not trying to offend anyone.
