Here you can see the carpet is installed and so is the rear glass regulators etc, and everything is buttoned up.
I'm still waiting on my seatbelts, so for now it will be a dangerous ride.

Andre,
is that sound deadener fastened to the exterior panel of the door?
is that correct?
i would think moisture would cause problems installed like that.
on my 70 lemans, the PO installed it between the door and the door panel.

Yes, it is fastened to the exterior panel of the door. If functions in the same way that the old petroleum based product from the '60's that was used originally.

I'll have to ask about the moisture problems, but I don't think it is an issue.

6t7gto,

The factory used both products. The one you are refering to is simply to protect the door panel itself from moisture getting in past the window seals. Without them the door panels would warp quickly.

The material against the door is for vibration/sound deadening but I would think that it is suppose to help prevent condensation too.

Andre,

That car is looking wonderful!

Andre,

Is it an optical illusion or are the rear seats a different shade of gold than the inner quarter trim panels.

They are slightly different, but not as much as the picture indicates. All of the interior products that I used were from PUI.

How do they do the carpet in areas like along the back door panels between the back seat and the doors. I have never really paid attention but I want that to look as good as possible when I am putting in my new carpet soon.

Andre, where did you get the hi-tech sound deadener/insulation?

Not sure where Andre got his, but the most affordable stuff I could find was on eBay. It's sold under the name "FatMat" and "Brown Bread." I got 4 giant rolls and install tools for about $200 shipped, which was more than enough to do my '65 GTO and my Silverado twice. In hindsight, two rolls would have been plenty. The equivalent amount of Dynamat would have been in the $500-600 range, at least.

One word of advice: this stuff isn't meant to come off. Ever. I recently cut my trans tunnel to install my TKO600 and the sound deadener made it a very messy job. But it did make a huge difference inside.

At this point the car is almost finished. Some of the minor setbacks- the original power antenna switch would only work in one direction, so a repo had to be ordered.

The interior is completely installed, and looks and feels fantastic, but I still have not gotten any seatbelts.

I am still working on the Hurst wheels as time permits, and hope to wrap those up soon. I am very happy with the results of this restoration, and will be posting some more pictures soon.

Here are some of the latest pictures. The red fender liners are the reproduction pieces.

Man I love those red fenderliners. Some colors they just really go with and tiger gold is definitely one of them.

I have been slaving on my Hurst wheels on and off for about an hour to an hour and a half a few nights a week. If you look at the faces up close, you can see various imperfections in the aluminum, but at the normal viewing distance, the spokes look very shiny. I got a set of repo bullets from PY some time back, so I will used those. Some years back, Rick Domeracki of the Chicago Illinois area reproduced trim rings that closely match the originals and actually fit the wheels properly, unlike the repo trim rings that were floating around a few years back.

Those rings left a gap between the ring and wheel due because the dimensions on the slots were not quite right. This will be the final touch that I hope will make the car stand out.

Andre...Are those " dents " in the fender liner, fronts, molded like that?
I had a friend of mine put them on his 66 and had a little issue with the tires clearing.

Looking good.

What size tire is he running? I will running 225 60 14, which is not quite stock but close to it.
The fender liner fits very tightly to the inner fender, so if there was clearance to the inner fender before installation, it should still be there after the liners are installed.

Here is an update on the fender liners
The rears took the shop 1/2 hour to install each side
The driver side front took 2.5 hours, and the passenger side front took 5 hours.
The passenger side is mis shaped where the inner fender clears the blower motor. Apparently, heating the plastic and reshaping it did not help. Even after allowing this liner to cool to it's modified shape, it later returned to it's original configuration. In any event, they are on there.
