Default USS John F Kennedy Catapult Testing

Testing the Magnetic Catapults on the USS John F Kennedy (CVN-79) now under construction at Newport News Shipyard.

Former USS Enterprise moored nearby. Her replacement (CVN-80) is also under construction.

I watched it the other day. Amazing how far that catapult sends those carts

Shame they scrapped the Big E, pretty cool catapult, love to catch a ride.

The new Enterprise (CVN-80) will use metal recycled from Enterprise (CVN-65) and the Portholes from the Big E's predecessor, Enterprise (CV-6).

Wiki - "Various artifacts and mementos from (CVN-65) also nicknamed the "Big E" were kept aboard from her predecessor (CV-6). The port holes in the captain's in-port cabin and conference room are only one example. The aforementioned port holes aboard the CVN-65 will be removed and returned to the Boston Navy Yard Museum."

Edit - Maybe Wiki needs a update? I'd like to see anything they could possibly utilize on (CVN-80) from (CVN-65) & (CV6), the OG Big E!

Yeah, probably so. I've seen news of the transfer of the CV-6 portholes to CVN 80 on numerous unofficial sources.

Familiar a bit. Put some time in at GA-EMS. The Capacitors are impressive, and made in Tupelo MS, near AL. Toured the Tupelo plant, and i liked the capacitor design.

There is a whole lot that goes into the EMALS kit beyond the Caps. Big Industry stuff.
