Rear Bumper Area Questions.
Hi all,
Couple of quick questions on the rear bumper area for my project. 1. the small panel that sticks out under the tank filler. I understand there is some kind of seal or rubber bumper that fits onto the edge of that piece between the panel and the chrome bumper. Does anyone have more info or pics of this? 2. I do not have a licence plate light, does anyone have pics of the light itself, how it's fitted and where the wiring runs? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

The license plate light bolts/screws to the fiberglass panel in the cut out just above the license plate when mounted. There is a ground strap that hooks to the lamp and then bolts into the rear tail panel metal. The power wire to the lamp has a grommet on it and goes through the hole in the tail panel just above the fuel filler neck hole.

Here is the little ground strap that you will need to find as its mounted in the plastic panel, grounds the bulb
I have a spare light assy but its not in good shape, Im sure there are better in here. I do not have a spare ground strap

Thanks....that helps. I found a repro light assembly at the Parts Place. The only PY listing said their part specifically did NOT fit 70-73 Firebird....so, it was off to the competition.
I'm guessing I'll have to fab up a ground as per the pic. Thanks.

Leigh, try this link and if there is not enough detail let us know. I can take more pictures of how that piece installs if needed.

Thanks very much....I knew I'd seen it referred to before. If you have another pic of it mounted, that would be great.

rear ground strap
Sorry to resurrect an older thread, I am in need of a photo that illustrates how the rear ground strap is situated. My car has the strap (it's covered in over spray ), and it has a "jimmied" wired that is bolted to it, with the opposite end bare. Based on what I am reading here, the ground strap makes contact with the plate light assembly to ground it out. Am I correct in this interpretation.
Thank-you! -Andrew

I'm attaching a photo of what I am seeing in the rear of the car in hopes members can help me out.
The ground strap that earths the plate bulb is visible. It's bent out of shape as it doesn't come close to making contact to the chassis of the bulb socket. I'm assuming it was bent when the car was haphazardly repainted a long time ago. How does the ground strap attach to the socket. Should there be holes at either end of the strap (one to mount the strap to the car body, and another to permit it to hang off of the mounting screw? Additionally, should the strap be painted body colour, or is it raw steel? Again thanks-you for the info! -A As an aside, my license plate bulb lense is half painted grey. Looking at reproductions, the lense is clear, while looking at a fellow member's ride (photo attached from another py thread, the lense is also painted) - what is correct?

The reproduction lenses are different from the originals (pic is correct). The ground strap is held to the housing by one of the mounting screws and the other end to the inner tail panel (like in your pic). Your strap is bent out of shape. I believe they were just bare metal originally as the lamp assy. would have been installed after painting.
