Default period magazine tests?

I was wondering is anyone here, like me, has a literature collection(?);

I have done my best to collect every period road test & review for 1970 Firebirds - I think there's only one magazine which I need to have them all;
Sports Car Graphic; March 1970

I was wondering if members here might be able to share with me which publications had tests of 1971-1972 Firebirds, or GTO's - because off hand, I don't recall seeing any - I have seen tiny blurbs about 71-72 Firebirds and GTOS in the "new car" issues which devote about one paragraph per manufacturer - but nothing more.

I have also tried to collect period PMD literature, because, well, I find it fun to flip through this stuff...

I could have sworn I read a passing reference to a UK magazine which had a road test of a 1971 Trans Am, but I can't seem to find that either.

Before anyone gets up in arms, I have done searches all which seem to yield nothing of consequence - the closest I came was an incomplete list of magazines with period road tests which is hosted by a member here:

Mike Noun's list of road tests

but again, other than one GT-37 mentioned in the June 1971 Hot Rod magazine, nothing listed between 1971-1972 ~ and it seems to me that (the one mentioned in the link aside) the only 1973 road tests all are about the SD455 - almost as though nothing else exists...

Sept. 72 Cars magazine

After the drag testing they take it to Nunzi for a tune up and retry in another issue. I have it too somewhere.

Sweet!
Thanks for the tip!
That's probably my favorite period magazine... when you recall the follow up article (month/year) I'd appreciate knowing that?

The Nunzi articles are probably Oct and Nov '72.

Yeah, the pre and post-Nunzi tune up drag times are all posted in the Sept. magazine pictured above. Then in the Oct. issue they cover what was done by Nunzi to make it quicker.

nice!

Thanks for the information!

Does anyone know any other road tests ect on 1971 Formula/Trans Am/GTO's?

I can't help but think some are out there...
My favorite picture of late is (I believe) taken from GM proving grounds, and I would earnestly hope that there is a story to go along with it...

there are period road tests for two different '71 400 4spd GT-37s, one in June '71 Hot Rod, the other shared by Sept'71(?) High Performance CARS and it's related publication Speed & Supercar. Have several of these original mags as well as original High Performance CARS road test of a std nose '72 400 4spd GT.

Will be hauling over several boxes of mid 60's through early 70's Car & Drivers and Road & Tracks, all were given to me 20 years ago and quickly made there way to one end of the attic.

This has Formula 400 Firebird, 400 GTO and 455 Trans Am. It is such an awesome magazine. I also have the 70 1/2 and 69 issues...

Seeing that one reminded me of the "Performance Car Guide '72" that I had stashed away. It's written by the same people that did CARS magazine too.

It covers 455 HO GTO, 400 Lemans GT, Formula 400, and 455 HO TA. I always liked these annual compilation magazines that were just full of drag tests back in the day!
