Hi.... we bought a 1976 455 Trans Am and the guy gave us a box full of parts with it, and in the box is a brand new set of Alliance brand hydraulic lifters....The guy bought all these parts back in the 80 ' s to rebuild the motor and never did anything with it. I figure someone probably made the lifters for Alliance, and they are just re boxed under the Alliance name. We also just bought a brand new set of the summit lifters for pontiac, but thought it may be better to use these Alliance lifters instead since they are new, and lifters from the 80 ' s may be better since you hear the horror stories about the new lifters...
Anybody know who made these for Alliance back in the 80's? What do y'all think, use the new summit lifters, or the Alliance? Thee motor is a 100% street 455 with the Crower 60243. Thanks, Brian

Having had issues with other brands I stick with the Johnson lifters and no issues.

A picture might help.
I sold a lot of auto parts in the 80's. Don't remember that brand, might be reboxed.

I did some more research and found a post from 2005 in the Race section here, a guy was asking about the Alliance lifters, his were a number 652399.... thats exactly the number of ours also, and he was told they were Johnson lifters....I wish I knew for a fact, I will try and get some pics of them and post up......
thanks for the great info so far everyone! Brian

I ran an Alliance Cam and lifters in my GTO in the late 80's. Can't remember if the lifters were reboxed Johnson's or not, I know for a single pattern cam in a low compression 400 it kicked butt.

Thanks for the replies!! Some great Info!**I took apart one of my new summit lifters just for the heck of it....and it looks basically the same inside except the "check valve seats"... The Summit lifter have a check ball and coil spring...were as the Alliance have a flat disk and conical spring....they both have the "stamped" metering valve disk to allow oil out. The other difference is the body....The Alliance has to grooves machined in the body below the oil band,, and the Summit lifters are just smooth bodied other than the oil band.... here is a pic of the Summit lifter....The pic of the Alliance lifters are in my post above.... I think i have came to the conclusion that the Alliance lifters were made by Stanadyne.....
