Default My KRE/Old Faithful 458 almost complete!

I've finally been able to get a few things to go correctly on my build and it is starting to come together! My trunk full of parts has merged into one, just have to install the oil pump, windage tray and oil pan and I will be pretty much ready to bring it down to the dyno.

I wont be able to drive it before winter but I should for sure be ready to go early next spring for some fun!!

Engine specs in my sig

Looks great. One question, With all of the beautiful work on the intake why did you not remove the crossover?

Thanks! I thought about it, then figured I don't plan on swapping intakes so I just said screw it. I may end up regretting it but I think it should be fine.

The main reason I wanted to cut out the crossover is I am planning on running all the wiring for the fuel injection and factory sensors/alternator wiring under the intake, and that should give me plenty of room to do so. Should clean up the installation nicely.

Please let us know how it goes on the dyno. That sounds like a real nice combo.

Yep, since its a .040 over 428 block, with a 455 crank you get a .010 over 455 which is a 458

Well.....I got the oil pan, pulleys, alternator + bracket all bolted on as well as test fitted the headers just back from the ceramic coater.

Its starting to take shape, Not sure about the dual snorkel air cleaner yet. it kind of hides a lot of the engine which I don't really like, but Im also not a huge fan of open element air cleaners either. I may have to come to some kind of middle ground to make me happy.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, I am very anxious to get this thing up and running.

I almost want to cancel the dyno and just dump it in but I really would like to see what it makes power wise first. I just have to be patient I guess...argh!

I will add more progress pics as they come.

Bob

If you want a different air cleaner, try these guys. http://www.ramairbox.com/models.html I won't use the open element either. I'm thinking I will see what they have that can draw air from the cowl between the AC and windshield wiper mechanism. I'll have to cut a small hole in the firewall but my car isn't valuable......

wise move, engine dyno testing a street engine is ok for confirming power, oil leaks, and testing components is ok
Tuning a street build engine on a engine dyno is useless waste of money,
It that has to be done in the car in its own enviroment with air intake, actuall exhaust system & fuel delivery drivetrain as to be considered end user.

Thanks for the link, those are more along the lines of what I wanted. I also was just thinking about that idea of using the cowl for an air intake but I don't have the nerve to cut into my firewall to do it

Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing a lot of tuning on the dyno, I was just looking to get an actual idea of what HP im making. The Holley system I have is supposed to be self tuning as I drive so that should save me some trouble.

Real nice motor/combo 428GTO70! I really like how you pre-welded the collector extensions (using the ball-socket style connectors) onto the headers prior to coating them. That will work real nice (and seal up nicely) once you bolt it into your GTO!

A quick question, what are the specs on the SD Hyd-Roller 'Old Faithful' if I may ask? Been thinking about a Hyd-Roller upgrade for my '69 Bird 406 at some point.

Cheers,
Brian.

Thanks! The ball sockets were kind of a spur of the moment decision but I think I will like them, I welded the o2 sensor bung into the other half of one of them. and yeah Goat Whore looks to have given you the specs but also if you search for "faithful" you will find a lot more info, its a pretty popular cam.
