Sorry to hear that, see if you can cancel the payment.

In general, if someone contacts you about buying or selling a part and wants to communicate directly with email instead through PMs, be suspicious. Always check to see when they joined the site and if they have any posts, if they just joined and/or have zero posts it is a big red flag.

Another thing is for whatever reason, the scammers almost always have a screen name that's a combination of what sounds like a first and an unusual last name (in this case 'derbykaren'). They'll sometimes also include some random number in the name. For example, a few other recent ones are johncarlk, alicedrakevb and marybrons33.

If anything seems fishy, be sure to report them so the moderators can deal with them asap.

On my website I have to go in and approve every applicant. This is turning into a full time job! Our websites are under constant "attack" from spammers and even though we've put things in place to keep them out some still sneak past security and squeak their way in.

I get up around 4am so most folks on my site never know they were even on there putting up adds for Russian brides, and all sorts of stuff to sell or trying to get you to click on websites you need to stay away from.

I'll add here that these folks are RELENTLESS with their applications. I'm at a point now where I can just look at the IP address and not even do a search on it and tell that it's a spammer. Plus the email addresses they use, they're so long with so many abbreviates and periods in them they have to be computer generated, no one I know could remember all that!

Here's an example of an email and IP from Africa:

User name: agrohimteu

Email address: s.u.per.vis.mteuor.2.015.i.nvi.n.o@gmail.com

IP: 154.28.188.172

If you research the IP it's from Africa......

In any case if anyone has tried to get on my Forum and not been approved or rejected send me a PM telling me your details and I'll go in and manually approve it.........Cliff

I’m still in contact with them, so far this morning they say they are from Troy Michigan with a northern Indiana area code 219,
Everything has been through text message for me on this deal But I’m still not going to hold my breath, she/he told me it’s going to take 2 business days to ship my studs buahaha!
Who says that? Besides online retail stores
I know that personally when someone buys something from me I ship it same day if possible or the next available.
I paid with Zelle through my banking app.
For some reason I decided to go along with this yesterday it was pretty stupid of me because normally if somebody tells me they want to pay with Zelle I automatically know it’s most likely a scam but since they provided a dated picture with a Studs signed that was enough for me to believe that it was real either way I’ll keep everyone posted on what happens.

So far everything I’ve done with the PY has been perfect. I always try to call or get a phone call before making a purchase. This includes any type of used parts or Facebook marketplace also craigslist if I can’t talk to the person. I will not spend the money or continue sale. Must do nowadays. Sorry to hear.

Yeah I’ve been using PY since 2009 2010 area and I have never been ripped off by a person on here and this person was very good
normally you can tell a scammer pretty fast
Now I should’ve gone and seen that they had no posts or anything like that that was a big red flag that I saw afterwards but I’ve never had an issue on PY
obviously the picture they sent me of the Main Studs with a note dated with their name next to it when I asked for it calmed my nerves enough to pay for it and they are still telling me they’re going to ship the stuff so I don’t wanna say too much until I know for sure I’ve been ripped off but I’m 99.99% sure that I’m not ever going to get any studs

It's amazing how many spammers and scammers join this site on a daily basis. It's a constant game of whack-a-mole to try to stay ahead of them.

Cliff and Stuart - you have caused me to rethink adding a carburetor question/answer section to my site. We will leave it read only, with questions by email, or preferably, telephone.

Thanks to both of you.

Jon.

How about this one? Mihai Jaramillo. Just joined today. The female photo with the name I've seen before, attached to a different name.

Banned.

I've been checking first thing each morning to see who's joined the site in the last 24 hours; typically there may be one or two legitimate people, but as many as a half dozen scammers or spammers. It can be like trying to bail out the ocean to keep up with them all.
