Default Vintage speedboat with Pontiac engine

Had the privilege of seeing a one of a kind speedboat the other day, courtesy of the Pontiac-Oakland Museum. The engine is a 1972 Pontiac 400 with no VIN. Check out the Pontiac sky blue engine paint on the engine cover, and the unique marine manifolds. You never know what you'll find visiting the museum!

Sweet! I love the scoop and the heat exhaust grills on each side.

Those are Glenwood manifolds. Very cool boat! Look at the dash, it has a tic-toc tach!

Cool Very Cool...

Even as a young kid I was tinkering with Pontiacs.
I met a man when I was 17 who drove a 1965 Catalina.
He built boat cabins as a side job at the Belford NJ fishing co-op/marina.
The '65 was his work truck he carried all his tools in that car.
He also told me his 3 fishing boats had Pontiac V8s in them, I thought yea BS!
Boy was I wrong the day he took me over to see them.
He used Glenwood on his boats;

Good Stuff,
Thanks for sharing and reminding me of those days
I still know that man.

Cool pic!

I had bought a 428 with 670 heads off a guy that had marine exhaust manifolds and timing cover, but it was a different brand.

Those manifolds weighted a ton!
(cast iron)

The name escapes me right now, but supposedly was a popular brand back in sixties.
The engine was swapped for a Olds, though.
(never saw the boat it came out of though)

Great stuff Jeff! Yes, this boat has the Glenwood manifolds. This also has a remote oil filter (blue AC-Delco) and the engine is complete with the original Q-Jet. The hood scoops are from a Camaro. Everything was basically completed back around 1972-1973.

Always thought a Pontiac engine would be perfect for a boat. All that low-end torque is exactly what you want. Would love to go out on that museum piece to check it out. Thanks for posting.

Wonder if it runs cool with the water manifolds, unlike most engines in the car.

Yessir, wondered the same when following the coolant hoses, no t-stat, etc. as shown in Mikes posted image below:

The water runs thru the manifolds first then thru the engine. Runs about as cold as the water going in. That scoop is a Cal Custom piece- have one on my shop wall. I also have 2 sets of marine plates and manifolds if anyone is looking to do a boat with Poncho power.

There was a 70's jet boat for sale over here in NZ a while back. Complete with 400 Ponty with Glenwood or Nicson (can't remember) manifolds, bellhousing and front cover. Pretty cool old school ride. Was close to buying it as a fun boat for the family. Now wish I had

Mike, is that boat in a storage building in Pontiac?
I was at the museum on (approx) June 16. Would have been cool to see it if I knew about it, but it might not have been around yet.

Next time I'm out in Illinois I'll have to let PY local members know, so I might be able to meet a few of you. My sister lives 28 miles north of the museum.

Looks more like a cabin cruiser than a speedboat.. Cool all the way in the vintage department!

Yes, it's off site. Let me know when you plan on going to the museum, and I'll be glad to meet you there!

I've been thinking about a Poncho boat for a while, are your manifolds like these?
