Shippng an engine block
I was wondering if anyone knows of a shipping company that will crate and ship an engine block?
I found a block that I'd like but the seller doesn't want to deal with shipping so basically the only way I can get it is if the shipper can some how deal with putting it on a pallet for him. Any advice is appreciated. |

I guess the guy really doesn't care if he sells it or not. Tell him if he wants to sell to you, he needs to get it ready to ship.

You can get a free pallet almost anywhere. Swing by a big box store after hours and there are always some laying out on the loading dock (wink). I've shipped engine blocks before by simply strapping them to a pallet and then dropping it off at Forward Air.

a Baker ditto;
I've roped a full-dress engine to a "free" HD Skid, in my garage. How I got it in the trunk& to PHILLY for Drop-off is completely forgotten. Must have used my engine hoist, but no recall there. Must have been tramatic. I remember clearly the PHILLY fellas at the shipping warehouse were cool & helpful, as if engines on skids happen all the time. |

I shipped a 421 about a 1000 miles on a pallet. It seems to me I put it on there, fastened some small portions of 2X4 up against parts of the block to keep it from tumbling around, some 1" ratchet straps to hold it down, tarp over the top and apparently it all arrived in good shape. Simple.
