Default ID this console

A real nice piece that was in the trunk of a firebird I bought last year. Have no use for it so I plan to sell.
Not up on the later consoles.........this a 71 or 72 with the woodgrain? A 70?

it's a 69/70 A body. fits 68-72

Not a 68 because it has the woodgrain insert in the front.

Not a 71/72 because it's missing the button hole they added for the console lid release in 71

no one notices whether it's correct for 71 or 72 because most lids are now repops that don't have the button release anymore, and barely anyone would notice it wrong in a 68 because of the woodgrain insert. you'll always see these just advertised as 68-72 Lemans/GTO consoles.

Its a 69 console.
That's the only one with woodgrain that didn't use pushbutton lid.
70 71 72 all had PB lids
71 used a faux leatherette looking insert
72 was a darker shade woodgrain

But like gto4ever said , it can work in any 68-72 if it needs to be used.
Same overall shape and size.

interesting. I had a virgin 70 lemans sport off the original owner that was parked in 75 and it didn't have a button on it so I always assumed it didn't start til 71 (it was the only 70 I ever had that was a known original) maybe an early late thing as to when they went to the buttons? no idea on build date, that car was had and gone 30 years ago. A side note, that same car also had the rally ratchet shifter that had a piece of factory woodgrain covering the 1-2-3 on the shift plate so they "detuned" the shifter so you didn't know you had it as punishment for buying a Lemans sport instead of a GTO! it still functioned, just hid the shift pattern indications -- the repops are missing the numbers so that tidbit of originality is getting buried as time marches on as well.

Perhaps an oddity , or perhaps a swapped console.
Good push button lids have been a hot commodity since the mid-80's when I was doing used parts full time.

Back when parts catalogs were more sincere , the repop lids were openly stated as correct for 68-69 , but usable replacements for 70-72.

Good eye. You're right mine has the button hole. Correct for 71/72. Thanks

1970-71-72 all have the push button on the lid.
