Default Valve Springs Q

Had RHS in Memphis build 6X-4 heads for a Comp Cams Magnum 292 camshaft. They added springs accordingly, slight port, mill, stainless valves & roller tip rockers (1:52). Works very well but I'm "detuning" it (400ci) for the street and contemplating a camshaft swap to a Crower 60240. Just a cam/lifter swap, leave the springs alone?

I am no expert but have been studying cams to death recently re my engine and heads I have built for it and the valve springs that are already installed in them,it and from what I am seeing re those two cams you cited you should be ok. The 292 cam with 1.5 rockers has .501 lift at the valves and the Crower 60240 cam you are going to has .411/.446 so no problem re coil bind. You will however be a little weak on open pressure and the book says you will have a mite too much gap when the valves are fully open so there could be some bounce there when you are really spinning the engine. Some real experts, which I am not, will surely chime in. From what I've read and been counseled in my cam questions you would be better served if you found a cam with shorter durations than the Magnum 292 but with very close or identical valve lifts.

For all intensive purposes at that level, a spring setup for one flat tappet grind, will work on most others. Personally, i don't feel the spring is an issue, more so the huge step down in valve events, depending on where compression is. What you DON'T want is to close that intake valve that much earlier with compression set for a later closing. If the compression is already low, then you should be fine. Hope this helps.

To really provide a solid answer to your question we really need to know what springs RHS used in your 6X heads.
