Modify 70 lemans fenders for Gto?
Have nice lemans fenders and want to graft the Gto side marker area off my crusty 70 Gto fenders. Anyone done this with success?

I have not done your particular fender, but I have sliced and diced a lot of sheetmetal. Yes, it's absolutely possible. Especially if all 4 fenders are GM, they will weld up nicely. Is the bumper surround the same? The pic shows how I would cut all 4 pieces, mostly flat area just above the Lemans bumper opening. I would bolt the Lemans fenders on the car before cutting them to make sure they fit with the front bumper, hood doors, just as you would for final assembly. If you have to modify the fender to fit, now is the time to find out. You might have to drill some new holes or weld up unused holes.
Remove the fenders, label and save the shim packs for assembly time. Just cut all 4 pieces exactly the same. I would mount them back on the car again and fit the GTO section in place aligned with the bumper and valance. Make sure the vertical line is flat across. Tack and weld the patches on the car so nothing moves but stay a few inches away from the bumper. Remove the fender and finish welding the front. You might luck out and not have to use any filler atter grinding. I use lead, especially on seams, but if you have this welded solid, bondo will work.

Thanks for detailed reply! Haven’t measured yet, but just by looking at the fender surround some modifications may be needed.

Cut straight across near the upper red line, all the way back to the wheel opening area is the buttweld line I've used.
Have tediously scribed, cut & fitted several '70 as well as two 71 GTO fenders together using donor fenders. There is an inner flange on the front edge of the donor fender that can remain & continue down & be clamped to the lower piece as the careful fitting process continues.
